The Red Sox payroll was neck and neck with the Yankees in 2001, both at $109 million. I don't know exactly where they stand with all the trades now, but the Yankees and Red Sox are #1 and #2 in terms of 2002 payroll.

What George has is a huge advantage in revenue. The disparity between him and the majority of the rest of the league is mind-boggling. You would think he'd keep his mouth shut, but he's never been able to do that.

Since the strike isn't going to fix the competitive imbalance, I'm hoping that the Yankees bomb in the first round of the playoffs, and Steinbrenner starts firing people as he's already threatening to do. George is the only person that can keep that team from taking 3 or 4 out of the next 5 World Series.

All of you wish George owned your team.

he's just trying to get in the news. more exposure for himself = more exposure for the yankees = more money for him.

Calling Raul Mondesi a big name hitter is like calling Turkey a big name country; both are "big" in reputation but not in resources.

afaik the Yankee payroll is over $135 million with the addition of Weaver and Mondesi.
compared to the redsox hovering around $100 million.
in baseball terms thats a big difference.

btw i hate the Yankees.
and to those who think itll be a breeze this year for them.Take a good look at the health of the SP and the status of Mo Rivera.
it will be no cake walk for the Yankees,if there is any postseason to speak of.

who gives a flying fsck what that nut thinks about some other team? he can't say anything until MLB has revenue sharing in place (revenue sharing would of course require that revenue be used for the team)

He's done. He folded like a cheap suit for Gonzo and the rest of the D-backs in the bottom of the 9th, then tried to blame Scott Rolen for his own screw-up . . . the legend has died.

yes hes been very vulnerable this year. But for a long stretch he was godlike(.048 BA against!).
I as damn near fanatic a redsox fan that exists.I just pray that the ship is righted and the Sox take the Division.4 games back is far from insurmountable.

1) Red Sox are way higher than 100mil this year.
2) George wasn't upset about Red Sox getting Floyd. He was simply stating a double standard: when yankees got Weaver giving up great pitcher and 2 pretty good prospects entire baseball community had a frenzy. Now, when Red Sox get Floyd giving up only a bag of M&Ms nobody says a word.
3) All you yankee haters are annoying. Come up with the best argument you can and chances are I've already heard it a million times.

Does not mean that the argument is not right. e.g. Tell me why Osama is bad and chances are I've already heard it a million time.

Thats exactly what I thought after I read Argo's post. Personally, I hope the Twins take down the Red Sox and the Yankees.
