I liked what I saw so far in the 1st 2 episodes. Was it INCREDIBLE? No. But Showtime really pulled out all the stops and apparently spared no expenses in the production.

I did some backstory reading too on the Borgias family before it aired. Crazy shit.

I watched the first episode last night. Not a big fan of the period dramas. Outside of Jeremy Irons and Colm Feore, I thought the acting was subpar, especially by the two sons. The costumes, set decoration and CGI looked pretty good though, I'll give ya that. I'll probably keep watching though...as it's better than most of the other drivel out there.

Funny you mention the two brothers as I was going to comment on their acting as it seemed to stick out (in a bad way) comparatively to the rest. The older brother was OK... but the younger... oh boy. Pretty bad.

The sword fight towards the beginning of the first episode? lmao...that was...brutally bad acting. The older one got a little better, agree with you there. The daughter is pretty bad too.

Not really apropos of anything, but I wonder if they're producing the Borgias based on the relative success of The Tudors? We just finished watching The Tudors on Netflix.

YES! That was the worst. It reminded me of some sort of "sword fight" dance you'd see in a ballet or something. The daughter didn't stick out to me too much. I will have to pay closer attention.

Funnily enough, I hated the Tudors, but I'm sure this was just a easy, natural extension for Showtime to go into.

Nah, I played Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood, so I've had my fill of the Borgias.

I'm watching. A lot went on for a premiere. I can't wait to see how they drag on the rest of the season.

They will probably use a lot of so-called dramatic license to spice up the story. For example, you must remember that there never was any tangible evidence of incest in the family. However, at the time, that was the worst thing you could accuse someone of and the rumour was thus used against Alexander VI. The male Borgias were indeed ruthless and power hungry but Lucrezia has been much maligned by association only. In fact, her later life was quite unremarkable by Renaissance standards.

will watch when it comes to Netflix. that stuff fascinates me to no end.

hmmm...I may have to pick up Assassin's Creed, then. Though I assume the plot is paper thin compared to the rather long history of these notorious assclowns.
