They've been talking about this Airbus super jumbo plane on history channel's modern marvel for months now. I'm not getting on that plane, it's unproven. Imagine what a field day terrorists can have w/ that many hostages.

Yes.

Pwned maybe in respect their 747 size record is broken, but I doubt 747 sales will be pwned.

Boeing is lucky that there's a weak dollar right now. Otherwise they would be fscked. Their product lineup is behind Airbus's, and they don't have the EU subsidies.

I'm still confused about this push to jumbo jets again, even though everyone is getting rid of theirs.

Anyone know who is taking first delivery of the A380?

Though, I'll take Singapore's A340-500 anyday :)

The market isn't in gigantic planes. There's a reason the 737 and A320 series are the best selling planes in the history of aviation. They should be working on making smaller planes longer ranged and more economical - oh, wait, that's the 7E7's goal. In Europe, larger planes are a bit more sensible, since more people engage in long flights about the continent (You'll never find a European that hasn't left their home country), but here in the US, the vast majority of our routes top out at about the capacity of a Boeing 737.

And I wonder how many of these orders include the shopping mall option that we were promised in 1996.

Apparently it will work well in the middle east. Emirates has an order for almost half of them so far. The trend of orders seems to be about 10 per airline (of those that have ordered), leading one to believe they will just slowly replace the 747, and not be some massive influx of them, obviously.

I dont see it coming to many, if any US carriers.

The trend seems to be towards economy, and frequency over quantity of passengers moved.

Specially the turns towards Regional Jets here in the US.

Thrust - and flaps. Almost anything can then lift off the ground.

europe isn't that much bigger than the US. huge planes are for transcontinental/transoceanic flights

go to any european airport and most of the europe to europe flights are on 320s or 737s.

me, i hate airbuses. the interiors remind me of 727s. POSes all. 777s have the best interiors.

747 is somewhat larger than the 777?

Even though the 777 is better in almost all aspects.

Also 747 and A380 aren't pwned by ETOPS. While ETOPS may not limit too much, people also have the belief that 4 > 2 in terms of engines reliability, and safety wise. Which of course has been disproved by the 777.

edit: typo, edit two for added content!
