I just saw this thing in person and it is TOTALLY different than the one in the commercial

its just too small to be a SUV (and they dont show this in the commercial)

and too bloaty to be a sedan or a station wagon... also it sits too high

and on other news, I saw a gallardo and a maranello parked today... the gallardo was new and the owner was revving it up to hear the engine!! :D

perks of living in socal!

I said this a couple months ago here on ATOT but got flamed.

Its ugly and the interior is horrible and designed poorly too. Try closing the door from the inside. You'll see why.

Agreed. Didn't they see how the Land Rover Freelander performed here??? But it will probably do okay in Europe and Japan where the X3 is considered to be a MASSIVE car. The X3's sales performance also doesn't bode well for the 1-series here.

I liked the X3 quite a bit after driving it. It feels more like a car when you drive it. It was so much more fun to drive than a jeep grand cherokee or ford explorer. The size is also better for me because it is not a tank. It also feels bigger inside and very tight compared to other SUV's

Mini Review....
* the engine feels more powerful than it is .... feels even more powerful than the V6 in the Jeep or Ford.
* The suspension can definately take curves at higher speeds than any of the others.
* Interior quality is better than the Jeep or Ford
* The inside is much more quiet than either. You can hear the engines more on the Jeep and Ford. So they probably have less insulation between the engine compartment and the cockpit.
* The double glass sunroof is awesome
* The back seats are much more confortable in the front and also for the rear passengers.
* as far as looks go I just don't like the black plastic on it....which can be fixed with a prepainted kit that you can order.
* when you take on options that compare to the X3 to the other SUVs such as Explorer and Trailblazer....they costs about the same as an X3. Leather...6 cylinder...AWD...automatic....blah blah.

I think it will sell because soccer moms get their SUV, and a BMW too boot. Who cares if it's so f**king heavy and low in horsepower that it can't even hit highway speeds?

TrailBlazer is 4612lbs.
GrandCherokee is 4356lbs.
X5 is 4586lbs.
Durango is a MASSIVE 4987lbs.
VW's Toureg is also an even more MASSIVE 5086lbs for the 6cylinder!!!! And I drove that one too....now THAT is an Underpowered for its weight SUV!

= X3 is not a "heavy" SUV.

A featherweight in comparison to the other SUVs mentioned in Chadder's link. Heard it has more functionality (cargo room inside) than the X5, too.

Thanks for the review Chadder. Nice to hear something besides the one-word or one-sentence quip when evaluating a car. :)

They don't make Cherokees anymore and you are still comparing Fords and Chryslers with BMWs. A loaded X3 will go for over 40K. I believe the highest end X3 fully loaded is something like $47K! I'm not sure what you can compare the X3 to. A RAV4? LR Freelander? Definitely not an Explorer or Grand Cherokee since those are full sized SUVs. The X3 is more like a compact SUV.

Sorry i meant Grand Cherokee. The X3 is in bigger than the compact SUVs and bigger than the large ones....a nice in between with almost the same room interior as the larger SUVs. Also we have priced a loaded X3 already for 37,000 (39,000 msrp)....this compares to the Ford Explorer we checked out that same day also for ~ the same price (eddie bauer 4wd 4.0 liter).

I agree with the statement that the X3 is a compact SUV. And for that, I won't pay $30k for it even if it's BMW.
