If you have to pick a period in time where you would place the blame for the downfall of today's society, which would it be? I thought of a poll, but I think it's more intriguing to see what you guys have to say.

I can start you off with some options - the invention of the Internet, ACLU, MTV, something that started 2010 years ago....

Let's hear it.

Society isn't in a downfall. There are no good old days. The good old days led to these days, and these days will be considered the good old days some day. The only people that think we are in a downward spiral are fundamental religious people because nobody gives a shit about them anymore now that we know they are all crazy.

Your logic is not welcome in this discussion.

In the good old days, people weren't logical. You're ruining society.

Eh. Baby boomers. They created the first generation of people who would (generally) never have to want for anything. Life has been pretty cush post WWII, except for those that got drafted for 'Nam and whatnot. So everything that everyone sees as the downfall of society (whether it is or is not) is, IMO, resultant from the dawn of a generation that has too little conflict/hardship and discipline, and too much time and stimulus.

Approx. 40 B.C.E.

Rome goes from Republic of Rome to Roman Empire.

After all, we have the Roman Empire to thank for the creation and establishment of Catholicism/Christianity - they did create the various churches, cardinals (iirc), pushed for a Pope and gave so much power to the Catholic world (again, which they created). And as it was Rome that expanded and essentially conquered basically all of Europe, their ways became ingrained into the ways of the people.

If that shit never happened, I wonder where we would be today. Personally, if I could ever go back in time (even if it was a one-way trip, I'd just become a martyr then), I'd choose around that time and sack the shit out of Rome. I just want to see what the world would be like without those contributions.

Though we do have Rome to thank for a lot of awesome things in the developed world as well, which kind of sucks they had to tack on religion too.

I'm gonna go with this. The period when Rome became an Empire.

That pretty much changed everything.

Let's hear it.

Deregulation over corporations started by Reagan and really ramped up by Bush.

I was just talking to a Mexican friends of mines dad...guys in his 60s and he said even there place started going to shit with lack of honestly, morals, dress, decorum etc in the late 1970s... today they shoot you in the face for almost anything... I'd say the 1970's sometime as well but it really depends where you live. Don't get me wrong stuff was pretty shitty prior to WWII and basically I think we went through a very good period in history post war. Imagine being a slave or a forced warrior for your local lord in the middle ages! We are way better than that still! But 1940's - 1970's was a good time on earth IMO. Today is pretty good too if you keep away from underclass.

'Society' is a very broad term. Based on your options, I assume you mean American society.

In that case, December 21, 1991.

Post WWII baby boom.

The increase in population and decrease in community has thrown morals and accountability out the door.
