Is the Blackberry Pearl only a T-Mobile phone?

I really want it, and I'm not averse to switching plans. I'm with Cingular right now, and I really want/need a new phone.

Just wondering if it's just with T-Mobile. I think this phone is awesome. If I choose not to switch networks, I'm just going to get the Samsung D-807.

So, does anyone have this phone or T-Mobile? How is their coverage?

Depends on where you live. If you live in the city, they are awesome.

Either way, I wouldn't buy that Blackberry... I love QWERTY too much to buy a Blackberry without it.

you can just buy one outright and pop your cingular SIM in it, AFAIK.

just make sure it's not locked to a specific network. (which you can still get around anyways, but costs a couplpe bucks)

We live in Birmingham and still get all kinds of dropped calls. I'll agree with you about the Blackberry though...QWERTY only.

I played around with it, and having two letters per key doesn't bother me too much.

Either way, looks like the coverage is horrible :( Looks like I'll just stick with Cingular and my current plan. My two-year agreement is up so maybe I can get a good deal on a new phone.

I love the look of the Pearl, but I know for a fact Cingular has coverage where I live.

What kind of phone do you have? Birmingham should have pretty good reception, I thought... The actual phone can make a pretty big difference in reception, since the physical antennas work differently, are placed differently in the phone, etc. Check out T-Mobile's website and do a personal coverage check in the areas you drop calls. If it says you should have good coverage, go visit a store or call customer service and see what they can do about getting you a better phone.

The Pearl is TINY. Well, smaller than I'd like it to be for what it's supposed to be used for.

Well, we had dropped calls in Auburn too. I don't know the actual model, it's the basic Motorola from T-Mobile.

I have been happy with the coverage my work cell, and aircard (Nextel and Verizon).
