Jimmy's plan to help his brother Kevin out of gambling debt with a truckload of stolen designer shirts backfires, forcing the two to kidnap local mob boss Sal Minnetta's nephew Louie. When Sal's right-hand-man Nicky Cottero decides to take the matters into his own hands, it's up to Tommy, the brainy one of the Donnelly brothers, to choose between fighting for his family and life as an honest man.

looks like it could be good. sucks that it took studio 60's spot, but olivia wilde is on the show and that's *always* a good thing.

The LAST preview, the one at the end of tonight's heroes, really attached a new face to this show.

It looked wimpy and idealistic in the previews before. Now I get a sensation of gritness and malfesance...

<---recording it in HD right now

I really enjoyed the pilot but...

***SPOILERS*****

...they killed a made guy. By any sort of logic, these guys are totally screwed. There's no way to negotiate your way out of killing a made guy, especially if you don't even have a good reason (protecting your brother who kidnapped the made guy's nephew in order to pay back a gambling debt?)

****end spoilers****

I enjoyed how the show was made, but I don't know how long I can stick with a show where the characters essentially create their own problems.

Edit: I also don't like that the show is narrated by a rat. Not cool at all.

Not a bad premiere episode but I also have my doubts about the show's ability to sustain this level week to week. My wife commented that it seemed like an Irish Sopranos. I didn't see that so much but the story did seem a bit familiar. Hot headed older brother. Another brother who's the good kid and wants to go straight but gets pulled back into the family business. Ending scene of all their enemies being taken out. Hmm, seems very familiar... :p I also like the fact that so much of it seemed to be filmed in and around parts of New York, and not the glamorous places but the grittier, everyday ones.

If this does, in fact, mark the end of Studio 60's run, I will be a little disappointed. I'll miss the snappy dialogue of the show and I did think that things finally got moving in the later episodes plot-wise (although it appears to have been too late).

Everything about the show seemed extremely forced.

For example the marketing: During one of the commercials for it they described it as "Crazy, Sexy, Noble, Cool"....please.

And the big twist where Tommy was the one driving the car...now he has to make up for every crappy thing his brother does, again vomit.

nbc originally committed to a full season, but last week's shows ratings were even worse than normal so they pulled it a week early to premiere this. as of now i think they still plan on showing the next episode, but they haven't announced when.

as for black donnellys, i enjoyed it. the show would probably be much better on hbo or showtime, but it was still good. and olivia wilde makes any show even better.

I loved it. Now if only they would make a reality TV show along the lines of 'I want to be in the mob...' that would rock even more. :)

I thought the chick was cute. How are they going to keep this series running? Some stupid punk gets himself into debt by gambling (bad gambler at that) then his brothers get screwed? Umm.. you mess with gangsters, they kill you, doesn't everyone know that? I guess if this didn't happen, there wouldn't be a show.

i didnt particularly care for it...the 'bad' brothers kept getting themselves in trouble and the other guy kept bailing them out..basically enabling them to keep on doing it...i just felt like they were all just a bunch of punks that would have been in jail had their 'good' brother not been on good terms with that cop

i mean his brother didnt even have respect enough to not hit on and kiss that girl he was seeing when they drove up to the bar..

I think i would have cared more if the ending had been different ..maybe the 'good' brother trying to return the guy that got kidnapped and being double crossed, being forced to kill the mob guy and that other guy...

the whole thing about him killing for his brother because he felt bad about running his leg over when they were kids was kind of lame...

what the guy said about them being better off with the brother dead was actually pretty true...that moron is a drug addict gets into debt goes and kidnaps the guy and then goes and fvcks up the whole family by killing the kidnapped guy

Remember the movie Sleepers?
This pilot looked like it was ripped directly from it.
But I liked it.

Finally watched the pilot episode, and I thought it was really good. I don't think you can judge this show by the pilot though. The pilot merely sets up the show, we'll see what the show will really be like in the next few episodes. Obviously after Tommy killed not only the top Itallian guy in the neighborhood but also the top Irish guy, they're not going to be able to remain small-time criminals.

I can't wait for tomorrow's episode.
