It could be the same exact phone, and I do mean the same exact phone, but relabeled as iphone 6, and it will still sell millions. Anyway I just hope they dont make more than one size phone. If they do go bigger then it probably does mean more power. I would look for the biggest breakthrough to be display power saving technology. That is some seriously low hanging fruit in the mobile device market.

Completely disagree. People on this site doesn't like Apple, I get it. But they built their brand up, since Steve Jobs came back, to this point by creating high quality products. It took them almost two decades. No, they can't sell millions if it's exactly the same phone and to be honest, Apple's brand is far more valuable than just a phone.

I really don't get the hate. Apple's phone updates have been just as substantial as any other phone maker, if not more.

I will say this though, Apple's dominant days are over without Steve Jobs. Cook just doesn't have the vision. He's a business man. He's not an innovator.

The hate comes with all the popularity that has taken over in Apple. Everyone has an iPhone and I guess Android and Windows phone users just dislike it because their phones are seemingly better.

Outside of the screen size discussion, is there really anything new to add? Any big new features that the iPhone is missing? I'm not talking about incremental stuff, like 8MP to 13MP cameras, I'm talking about actual features they should add. The only big thing I can really think of is waterproofing like the Galaxy Active, that would be the bomb, especially if you have kids!

Who knows. A lot of innovations weren't even in my thought process until they were released, and a lot of them are cool. Apple finally did the finger print tech correctly it seems, which I never even considered a decent feature. I'm actually using the IR blaster on my GS4 way more than I expected. I use my DirecTV remote for almost everything except for the few macro commands I have to change sources, and for that I use my phone now. I have touched my Harmony in months.

There are things like that I just didn't realize I wanted until it was done right. I'm still going to think of boring things like better battery tech and things like that.

If we're going to go really farfetched though, I still want an e-ink LCD hybrid screen. I know they're trying but it's got a ways to go. I'll bet a good portion of my battery use comes from my waking up the phone just to check the time and notifications. An e-ink screen would do that perfectly without much battery use. To have a polarized screen that only has the e-ink on until you fully unlock the phone would be awesome.

THEN they could expand that to tablets and it'd be REALLY awesome. I could be reading books in e-ink mode as normal, using very little battery, and then switch to LCD to use as a full tablet.

They'd have to make more changes on the software side for me to switch back, still can't stand things like lack of an accessible file system and inability to change default programs.

My two biggest reasons for switching away from iPhone were 1) Screen size 2) Waiting for jailbreaks. Even if the first problem is fixed this year, I don't think that will be enough to make me consider switching back.

I think people need to understand that there is no clear cut winner between Android and iOS. Both systems do certain things better. I, for one, find iOS better for my use. No, I'm not an idiot or "sheep". I'm a confessed geek who overclocked my CPUs, used RAID on my hard drives, hacked Android, etc.

I used to be a complete Windows user, Mac hater, Google lover. Now my main computer is a Macbook Air and my phone is a 5S. I really like the features of OSX and iOS.

I laugh at people who hate Apple or Android or Windows religiously. Me? I used them all. I'll be happy to switch back to any other platform if it's better for my use.

Unfortunately I don't see those ever happening.

People need to read that post lol.

I personally state whether or not I like a certain product , not a company. I like iPhones, they are very simple and easy to use. Plus their App Store is tons better.

However, MacBooks for the life of me just don't fit. I hate them, I hate their mice, I hate their UI. It just doesn't work with me.

Does that mean I hate Apple? Goodness no. I absolutely hate people that just try to hate something because it's from another company, but inside they're hiding their joy of using said company's product.

I switched from a Galaxy Nexus to an iPhone 5 because I couldn't stand the Nexus' size. It felt really uncomfortable in my pants and I couldn't use it efficiently with one hand.

I really hope Apple releases a 4" iPhone 6 or I won't be upgrading for a long time.

Wow you must wear really tight pants and have super small hands. I have small hands and can use my Nexus 5 just fine.

No, it's been one of the things the Apple fans have constantly harped about and that is phones that are too large to use with one hand or just plane too large. But, now that a competitively larger iPhone is in the offing there's one group of Apple fans that hope it will be another 4 inch phone while the rest, knowing i will be closer to 5 inches, have begun to accept the fact that perfect has been re-imagined and the new perfect will be 4.7 inches, if that's what the iP6 is, or the new perfect will be 5 inches, if that's what Apple makes.

If the iP6 is 4.7 or larger it will smash all the records and could make more money for Apple than the US car industry grosses. It will be interesting to see if Apple also has a new smaller phone as well with similar tech specs. There would be some reason they might do that, but generally companies won't want to dilute the marketing that way. The more likely thing would be for Apple to continue selling the iP5s as there entry/cheaper model.

Well, Apple did have a point early on. Remember some of the earliest phones with ~5-inch screens, like the Dell Streak and original Galaxy Note? Those were bulky for what you got. Bigger phones gradually became acceptable as profiles got smaller. Apple's issue was that it only slowly acknowledged how things were shifting.

The company looks like it's kickstarting its efforts now, but talk about cutting it close... if the next iPhone wasn't much bigger than it is now, there would probably be a minor riot.

I'm not that tall that's for sure. Small hands? Maybe. Tight pants? Just fitted.

When I had my Galaxy Nexus, I couldn't efficiently use it with one hand and it felt very uncomfortable. I was also not happy with the battery life, slowness, and lack of smoothness with Android.

iOS, to me, is definitely the superior OS and the iPhone 5S is the best phone for me. A physical home button is a must. I can't imagine having to look at my screen to activate voice commands which was needed with the Nexus. Fingerprint unlocking with the home button is pretty much second nature to me and a must feature on any phone I purchase in the future.

Come over to the Macbook side. I used to think that I could never use a Mac but boy, I'm in love with my Haswell Macbook Air. Battery life is up to 12 hours. It's thin and light. The trackpad is seriously amazing and changes the way you control. OSX has improved a lot since iMacs back in middle school. Everything is so easy to setup. For example, Time Machine takes 2 clicks to setup and has saved my butt several times. Having multiple desktops makes me feel like I was ripped off by Windows for not having it.

I also think that the Mac's value is actually better than other laptops out there. Find me a laptop with the same or battery life, weight, thinness, trackpad, and PCI SSD for $950. It's hard. Not to mention OSX, right now, is just much more polished than Windows 8.

All of my $400 HP, Dell, Compaq laptops fell apart within 2 years. I have a feeling that my Macbook Air can last 3-4 years of use.

Going to point out the obvious: you're using a two year old Nexus device as comparison.

That's why we all have opinions and choices. I have a Mac and think OSX sucks compared to to anything Windows 7 and above. The hardware is pretty nice though if you can live with a one button mouse solution by default (I can't so my 10 year old has inherited the Mac while I am happier with a Win8 tablet and old Dell laptop).

Back on topic, yes the larger screen is going to be the killer feature for the new iPhone. Apple is not immune to the shifting of markets and clearly larger screens are appealing to a good chunk of the market right now. I will be more interested to see what iOS8 brings to the table however. It would be nice to see Apple start taking advantage of more screen space at some point.

Assuming Apple address the hardware side with a larger device it's then down to improving the god awful UI that Jony came up with. I have an iP5S (company provided) so I'm not just throwing bricks from afar and for me the look of the UI is way too Fisher Price for my tastes.

That isn't to say Android is perfect, it sure isn't, but IOS is a big fat yawn for me.

The truth is, Samsung has been out innovating Apple for years with bold products that were sneered at by Apple fans like the Note.

People already buy a LOT of iphones without the big screen, so there's all the stuff they love about the iphones already to consider as well. Nice flashy OS, great stability, generally high app quality, premium-feeling aluminum and glass device construction, very good battery life, etc. A lot of android users I know love all those things about iphones, but can't give up the larger screens. Coming from an iphone 5s the screen size is likely to be the only significant factor though.

I can't imagine having to press a button to activate voice commands. :p
IMO it's easier to get to voice commands on an iPhone than a Nexus 5. Even the old Nexus S felt easier because a dedicated search button means you can just long-hold it and activate voice search. On a Nexus 5, you have to swipe up to bring up Google Now which honestly is a little less reliable than a long hold of a button. Only then can you say "ok Google" and hope the phone catches that before voice commands can begin.

With that said I'd love to see the always on listening of the Snapdragon 800 used in more phones. Hoping the OnePlus One addresses this.

I am generally an Apple person and I am one of the people who prefers a smaller phone but I don't want a phone with a lousy camera, slow CPU and less memory to get that smaller phone.

To me, it depends on how big Apple goes. If they are Moto X size, then I'll grumble a bit but will go for it... but if it's bigger, then I'm no hypocrite and they'll likely lose me as a customer. I jog with my phone, I cycle with my phone, and I don't want a big phone - the weight - particularly while running - is really annoying.

Weightless but large... I guess that would work... I guess I'm more sensitive to weight than size... but given that Apple seems to have lost it's access to unicorn farts in the last couple of years, I don't think it has any chance of being weightless. If it's large, it will be heavy... if nothing else the larger screen needs a larger battery.

You just need to change how you carry it. I went from running with a iPhone 4S to running with a Note 2 and since I wear my phone on my back now (in a carrier) I actually notice my phone less than before.

Well you're comparing your Air to a laptop that's a third of the cost lol.

But I can't hate on the MacBooks. Their battery life and trackpad are exceptional. I wouldn't use OSX though and I'd just bootcamp to Windows 7.

As for iPhone. I hope this rumor is true.

I'd be happy with that.
