The Big Ten is back!!

A lot of people felt that this would be the Big 12s year and that the Big Ten was down. Not so fast my friend. In the newest Coaches Poll, the Big Ten has 7 teams in the top 25 and 6 teams in the top 17. This includes the fact that perennial power Penn State is not one of those teams. Compare those numbers to other conferences and you got some great Big Ten football teams. Also, most of the losses for these teams came against each other. You throw a team like FSU in the Big Ten and they play like they did against Virginia, they would get smoked by any of those 7 teams.

Chart of Teams in the Top 25

Big Ten ----- 7
Big XII ------ 4
Big East ---- 2
ACC --------- 1 (man I hate FSU. any other conference and they would lose 2-3 games a year.)
Pac Ten ----- 2
SEC ---------- 6 (but four of their teams are ranked 20-25. So if you compare top 17, its 6 for the big ten and 2 for the SEC)

Wait till the conferences realign. FSU/Miami/VaTech
If Syracuse goes to the big 10 that would be something.

Personally I'd like to see Notre Dame become the B10's 12th member. They fit in geographically, academically, and they have a rich history w/several B10 teams. The Pac 10 needs to add Fresno State and Hawaii.

By the end of the season all of the analysts will be bad-mouthing the Big Ten as usual since many teams will not have the best of records after playing each other. Purdue still plays Michigan and OSU, Michigan plays MSU, etc.

Not going to happen because Notre Dame will not share bowl money with other schools.

The B10 proved everyone wrong last year with an outstanding bowl record. They even won that ESPN cup for the best conference. In the end the bowls will show who has the best conference.

All 7 of those teams could smoke FSU...can you pass some of the crack thet you are smoking. The Big 10 has so many teams ranked because they are as always a conference of mediocrity. There are no great temas but really no crappy teams either. Each year it is pretty much anyone's guess as to who will win it.

Last year, Ohio State was not as good as Miami(better for 10 minutes maybe). They just caught Miami with their pants down and rode the wave.

What a load of BS. Ohio State outplayed Miami for almost the entire game, Miami was lucky to tie it up in regulation. And Ohio State outplayed them in OT.

And this despite most everybody talking that Miami was unbeatable..

LOL, FSU almost beat them last year. Any team that had a halfway decent running game was capable of beating them. Miami was only playing for the title because they had a fairly weak SoS and was undefeated

"LOL, FSU almost beat them last year."

What is this concept of yours, "almost beat them" ?

What is "almost beat them" worth ?

If they are back where are they in the top 5 of the latest BCS standings?

"Almost beat them" could be used as an indicator of a team's relative strength.

Same way as winning 90-0 is not the same as winning 7-6.

*cough* Oklahoma *cough* Ohio State 😉

A win is a win. You shouldn't read much into lopsided scores. I'm not impressed with Oklahoma's running up scores, and doubt they will be National Champions.

And "almost winning" is losing.

Almost winning is losing, but a mediocre team almost beating a top ranked team says something about that team. Perhaps the team was looking too far ahead or did not prepare adequately. Or the mediocre team found something to exploit.

A win is a win, but people still read into how a team wins.

"but a mediocre team almost beating a top ranked team says something about that team. "

Yea, it says they lost. Beyond that it means nothing.

"A win is a win, but people still read into how a team wins. "

I know they do. But looking at the score and not the other aspects of a game is very misleading. Oftentimes games with lopsided scores happen because the losing team took lots of risks trying to catch up, for example.

"Province/State: Ohio"

How did I know...

It shows that you are only one bad break or bad luck play from losing. It shows that you are barely better then your competition.

Let's say Oklahoma plays Va. Tech for the title and Va. Tech gets crushed 70-0. You're really just going to say that Va. Tech merely lost? Or are you going to say they are overrated, should not have gone to the title game, BCS is flawed, yadda yadda?

I agree, looking at one game on one Saturday, the score may be misleading. But if a team can't consistently dominate a weaker team, then I think it does say something about that team.

But I also don't think that you should use that to take away from a win. Miami almost beat OSU is bs. Miami lost, plain and simple.

so basically what Wisconsin did to the Buckeyes and what at least 2 out of the last 3 teams will do to them as well?

"so basically what Wisconsin did to the Buckeyes "

That's right. The Buckeyes lost and Wisconsin won. We'll see what happens for the rest of the season, when it happens.😉

none of it matters cuz we all know Michigan State is the best in the Big 10! Plus, over half the teams in the Big 10 could beat any of the top teams in the other conferences....its just that the B10 perennially beats itself up and gets screwed because they'll have 1-2 losses.
