"Obviously you're not a golfer."

I always crack up to this line, but I never understand why.
Is The Dude trying to make fun of the guy or is he just a retard?

He's being sarcastic.

You know, I want to like this movie, I tried to like this movie, but I hated this movie. I don't get it.

I liked Napoleon Dynamite, so I'm into the subtle humor thing, but I just didn't get the popularity of The Big Lebowski

He's being sarcastic.

That's what I was originally thinking..

Obviously, you're not a bowler.

Great movie! Just so sad when Donnie dies.

It's a good movie but the hardcore adulation does surprise me a little. Take any movie and you will find an even split of people that think it rocks/sucks/is over-rated/is under-rated etc. But The Big Lebowski, Office Space & Pulp Fiction don't seem to suffer from this - they are universally acclaimed while a negligible minority stands confused, wondering what makes it infallible.

I think I found your problem... You have no taste...

Nap Dyna wasn't subtle or smart at all... it was easy laughs at the partially retarded kid. Lebowski was incredibly smart and clever. There are jokes in there you that you only catch after repeated viewing... Mix me up a caucasian...

Pulp Fiction >>>>>>>>>>>> The Big Lebowski, Office Space...

People will still watch Pulp Fiction in 10, 20, 30 years, but Office Space? Has Office Space changed cinema?

Dude, Pulp Fiction >* - it's my all-time favorite movie. What I was saying is while Office Space may not be one of the best movies ever made, I have never met a person who didn't like it. That's what I was trying to say to Fritzo - The Big Lebowski falls in a similar category.

Maybe that's it. I only watched it once. I'll give it another try.

That's a great line in a movie made up almost entirely of great lines.

I watched it with a guy who hadn't worked in an office since 1982 (switched to contracting), and he was still cracking up over it.

Wow, I'm having a stoner moment here and forgetting the song that reminded me of the Big Lebowski. Something about California I think and it was kind of slow and kind of country. I'll know in an hour.

"What the f*ck are you talkin about?"
"Man, you're f*ckin' Polish Catholic."
"What the f*ck are you talkin about. I converted when I married Cynthia. Come on dude."
"Ya ya ya ya"
"You KNOW this."
"Ya and five f*ckin years ago you were divorced."
"So what are you saying -- When you get divorced you turn in your library card? You get a new license? You stop being Jewish? ...."

yeah i agree with SirStev0. Nap Dyn was a stupid movie cause it all it does is laugh at a retarded kid. The Big Lebowski belongs to an elite group of movies that don't really have a plotline but because of that, and how well they are done, are some of the best movies.

it's not like Pulp Fiction really has a creative story line. Took me a few times to get it and i still don't understand what the connection between Bruce Willis and John Travolta and his buddy Jackson is.

Theres plenty of movies that have sucked balls and still changed cinema.
I dont watch a movie because it changed the world.
I watch a movie to be entertained.
Office Space entertains.

Which is the whole reason people started making movies to begin with.
