I was watching THE BIG IDEA on some channel a little while ago. I had never seen it before but the topic of violent video games was on. I sat through about a half hour of middle aged folk talking over eachother about how the 'statistics prove that males are more violent' and that 'banning violent games would feminize society'. Two younger people were on the host: one a friend of the Columbine killers and the other (dont know who he was affiliated with) were balancing out the arguments with some more realistic insight. The host seemed to keep everything under control pretty well and ended it with "you cant really stop it" blah blah "parents need to figure out what their kids are doing" blah blah...

Just before the end commercials he completely changes up his demeanor and says:

"I've now found out that there are games that are imitating the war in Iraq. Those game developers need to take every dollar that they make and send it to the families who have lost soldiers over there. Shame on those game makers... every PENNY should be given to those families... shame on them..."

Thoughts?

It'd be nice if they donated some of the money to the troops or the familes of the troops (living and deceased), but they should be under no obligation to do so. They're not profiting from games based on the deaths of those killed in Iraq, but on the conflict itself.

I wholeheartedly agree. This should go along with anything based on every war. Band of Brothers, Saving Private Ryan, Battlefield Vietnam, Apocalypse Now, Brothers In Arms, Metal of Honor, GI Joe...they should all pay their respects to the deceased.

Should I donate a bit to plane crash victims after I play a flight sim?

Pretty rediculous, IMO. I mean, it's not like they're profiting off the death of soldiers, they are simply simulating a real world situation. I know of NO game that has been either negative, or dishonest about soldiers. It's not as if the games have HARMED the soldiers in any way. If anything, it has brought more support for the soldiers.

Whoopdy-doo. I propose that the profits from all news agencies be confiscated and given to soldiers. After all, didn't CNN profit from war coverage? What about MSNBC, FOX, and the New York Times. They all made money covering the war. FOR SHAME!

Edit: No content changed, but once again, I am the typo knig!

Shouldn't everyone in the Bush administration be donating 100% of their salary to the troops? The "war on terrorism" got them re-elected.

You can stretch idiocy like that to fit anyone and everyone -- duct tape sales should go to 9/11 victim families?
