And yeah... if the IDL went straight north/south Alaska would be the farthest east. But the IDL goes around the US controlled parts of the Aleutians.

So I dunno... Guess it's nit picking.

He was probably talking about Big Diomede and Little Diomede Islands. The IDL runs between them and they are about 15 miles apart. The residents of both islands travel back and forth all the time but one is Alaska and the other is Russia.
