Well supposedly some part of them is on the other side, this from a prof a couple years ago. He's probably right, but it may very well be splitting some hairs.

He was probably talking about Big Diomede and Little Diomede Islands. The IDL runs between them and they are about 15 miles apart. The residents of both islands travel back and forth all the time but one is Alaska and the other is Russia.
