Why does majority of people I spoke with take everything word for word from it. Does jesus have special power like the ability to walk on water, cure blindness, bring the dead back to life, and cure any sickness? No matter what what you say, they will try to convert you and i been laughed at alot by majority because of my disbelief. They keep telling me, we are all sinner and must now serve god, do thing to please him in order to live forever for eternity in heaven with god because this world will soon be destroyed then god will create a perfect one and that this will happen only when all evil is destroyed meaning bad people. I told them that evil can never be destoyed so long as man are alive because good/bad is just a part of human nature and we can never be perfect because everything we do in life is a trial and error process and we get better as time progresses. First of all, what they say sound to good to be true so why not just take it with a grain of salt? :D

It seems you are just here to start flame wars, and I have had it with your flamebait. The door is that way, and I do not care if it smacks you in the backside on the way out. I might let you back in one day.

NART!

why do you start these kinda threads. its just going to turn into another flamefest. unless thats what you truely want.

its just opinions. you have yours and i have mine. nobody is putting a gun to your head and saying "please believe this or you're going to go to hell"

nobody said you HAVE to. if you dont then you dont. if you do then you do. if you find it annoying then you find it annoying.

i myself believe in god, but i wont put a gun to someones head and tell you to believe it or ill blow your head off.

this is just going to spark yet another flame war.

well, let it begin.

ok first off its not like you sit around all day doing nothing but praying. im a christian, not lately, but anyways. What you go to church sunday and then maybe mid week discussion with friends. It is a trial and error process yes but thats why god is forgiveful and not vengful. if he was then we would all be dead by now because of all of the sins we have commited.

When your friends say serve god they mean to not go out and do bad stuff, doesnt mean you cant have fun. Ever been in a room with all drunk people and you were sober? I actually have and i get a crack out of that. most of my friends respect that i dont drink and im almost always the designated driver when i go to parties just beacuse i dont want anyone to die after the party.

And yes jesus does have a special ability to walk on water i.e. he did this to partly convert people and to make them believe that he was the choosen one and he was here to save us. He performed miracles because he knew they truly believed in him that he was the one. Sorry if this doesnt make sense. kinda tired :)

there is no sense in replying to this. there have been so many religious threads in the past. why not just search for the religious threads and begin to read those instead of starting up yet another religion thread.

life goes on my friend. nobody is forcing you to do anything. if you find it really annoying, just tell them to STFU. simple as that isnt it? or is there some kinda spiritual force stopping you from telling them to F off?

Life goes by fast, we live and we die, how you look at your life should be from your aspect not mine or the next persons. Take it how you want it or think it should be, if somebody don't like it well thats their problem. I take life with a grain of salt, I trust what i feel. Living your life critizing or trusting what everyone says/does is not living its watching, this isn't a spectator sport. Live life man.

And btw being alive tomorrow sounds to good to be true to some people.

exactly man. if you spend all the time questioning other people and what they believe in or why they believe in, what the hell are you doing? you're wasting precious time. life is very short, so use it up wisely. you really cant be certain you'll be alive tomorrow. so just live life to the fullest without worrying why people try to force their religion upon you. when people try to talk you into religous, its because jesus usually uses people to spread the word of jesus to everyone. thats like a basic mission in most religions. i mean i cant say a mission, but whenever they usually pray, they say "jesus please use me in whatever way you see fit" you know what i mean. but you cant just stand around and be all down about why everyone believes or doesnt. like i said if youre athiest or whatever you were, then ALL THE POWER to you. just live life, and be happy. dont sit around pondering about others.

i myself would rather be dead today then wake up alive tomorrow. thats just how i feel.

Its up to you to believe what you want. Some people take it literally. Others look into the scriptures and take it as a double meaning. IMO, I think that the bible is just a record of history.

I know this thread cannot be rescued, but I can't let some of the statements made go without challenge. Our fallenness is NOT the causative reason that God is forgiveful, as seemingly implied by the careless theology above. Further, being a Christian has nothing to do with trial and error, or how often one attends a church or on which day. A Christian is someone who accepts that God Himself became flesh and paid the debt that fallen humanity could not. God accepted this sacrifice as sufficient and applies saving grace to those that believe. It is important to remember that words mean things, but especially when one is writing theological or other logical discussions.

Jesus was not the *chosen one*. He is God in the flesh. He is the God-man.

<< The Bible is a compilation of stories and fables.... >>

Not just that it is also a rough history book. Take one of our modern works into the future and see what they think our society was like. Imagine the only book to survive is "Sam I am." Does it REALLY matter if Jesus walked the planet or not. What does matter is we have a great "go-by" on how to get along with our fellow man. This "self-help" book has been penned in many languages. That is the power of the bible. Even Zealots know to take the bible with "a grain of salt."

The Bible is unreliable. I would not trust that book to be a history guide...even a "rough" guide...

Common.. be for real. The social expectations of 2,000 years ago are not socially acceptable now. BUT the Bible says that men own women and the womans place is to serve and love the man... etc. Look at the rules of slavery and the cast system. I just find it funny that the quotes are always taken out of the larger context to fit a specific issue. Even Zealots have to reject some of the concepts as "dated."

If these concepts of morality are concrete and these same concepts are found in other works of literature that pre-date the "Bible" (A colection of works itself that spans hundreds of years) then you have to conclude that the basis for other religions are also just and concrete.

To keep on thread and add my 2 cents... The bible is a collection of books. You have to think of it like this and not one single author book by Stephen King.

just leaving it at this...people going to heaven will be there to worship and serve God, just as the angels do now...if you don't want to do that for eternity, then heaven is not for those people (and those will be tortured for all eternity instead)

heaven is NOT your own personal imagined paradise.

You are right. It is an imagined paradise for the masses...

"Myth. A nice fantasy story. "

Even the non-christian or athiest should admit to the fact that in addition to religious doctrine the Bible also contains a large amount of historical record.

To label its entirety as a myth or fantasy story suggests you are ignorant of its contents.

No, the Bible says that women are to obey their husbands and that husbands are to love their wives. In just a moment I can get the quote from exactly where it says that...

Just out of curiosity... What about the other religious "bibles" that predate what the christians use. These people lead just lives, are kind and upstanding, may not believe in "heaven" but do have some religious payoff.
