Hi guys, i am planning to build a new Gaming PC, the budget is around 1200 $ and I am willing to spend about 300-400 $ on graphics card. Whats the best card in that range ? I will NOT be modding anything, or OC'ing anything. If its worth it then I can prolly spend an extra 50 $.

Games I wish to play:

FPS games like FEAR, BF2, COD 2, Farcry and also the latest one Oblivion
Strategy games like AOE III and the upcoming C&C III (too early to say :p but cant wait for this).

Also, I like 4xAA and 4xAF.

I was thrown off by this game FEAR. I went to my friend place and played it and my jaws dropped... I was dumbstruck by the improvement of graphics since 2002. Actually, I own an ATI 7500 and the last game I played on it was Max Payne back in 2002. Never played any games since then :-(... gosh, i cant wait for this summer to play all these new games !!! w00t !

Another ATI or Nvidia question. I'll tell you now, x1900 might be at the top of your price range, but is definately worth going for. If you don't feel comfortable at that barrier, the x1800 is a great buy, especially for what it offers. Plus, I think you'll like what both those can do with FEAR and Oblivion (and all of those games you mentioned). I'm not sure how they compare when going into OpenGL type games, I've heard that if you want to play Quake 4 or Doom 3, Nvidia might be better. Since your not overclocking, I just think that the ATI's would give you the best stock performance.

The X1900XT would be just at the top of you're range but their almost as fast as a 7900GTX, otherwise it comes down to the X1800XT and 7900GTX between those its a toss up but since you're not vmodding you might be better off with the X1800XT but you could also do well with a heavily factory OCed 7900GT (although I'm not sure what the availability on those heavily OCed cards are).

Where I live 520/1500 7900GTs have no problems with availability. Higher OC'd ones have.
