In a discussion about mandates, popular vote matters. He's gonna lose it by 1M votes, and his already fragile coalition of frat boys and white identity kids ain't going to last, as emotions-based movements like these typically end badly.
It is hardly emotional. The rust belt didn't vote the way they did on emotions they did it on economics.

It doesn't matter if he loses the pop vote by 10mm. The mandate is clear. Drain the swamp.

Yea, I dunno, I think this may have emboldened the GOP. They won an unwinnable race. That's going to be a strong card to play for the next few years. Now what drumpf does with that is yet to be seen, but they still won, and with the oddest standard bearer they've ever had.

Nah, a lot of them weren't economically stressed to begin with, so there's more to it than economics. A good chunk of Trump voters in the Rust Belt (he won by <1%) actually approved of Obama and many also hated HRC (some for very good reason), so a lot of it was a primal scream to blow up the system, some was white cultural identity, etc.

GOP achieves nearly complete complete control of US govt.

Poofydog: "GOP is DEAD because Trump is WINNAR!"

Can I have a spaceship ticket to whatever planet this imbecile is living on? This planet he lives on where trump is a centrist and the GOP is dead sounds absolutely divine. Or maybe I could have some of whatever drug deludes him in this manner?

Drain the swamp?

He has done nothing but setup his cabinet with political insiders. These are people who Trump once said that he's going to evict from the white house when elected.

Oh, and that Obamacare? Well he's open to compromise.

Looks like you guys might have gotten owned. Only time will tell. :)

I'm talking about how they just gained control of the 3 branches of government. Squeaker or not, that's real.
Right, and one of them came via the most disgusting political gamesmanship the country has been made to witness.

Trump will presumably seek reelection which means the future of so-called "Historic Bench 2016" candidates is also in doubt. Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, etc. are toast. It is quite tragicomic if you think about how they ended up where they are now.

How exactly do you think being in control of the Executive, Legislative and Judicial system is "dead"?

Dude, they're going to claim a mandate, and probably rightfully so.

But you did also say "and probably rightfully so".

The winner is always going to claim a mandate. It's not like a "mandate" is some tangible thing like a physical "get out of jail free" card. The mandate basically consists of right to be first among equals in determining what topics will be discussed in Washington WRT legislation, budget, and policy. The strength of his mandate is exactly equal to how effective he's able to be in getting his agenda passed, either via persuasion, the carrot/sticks of negotiation, or whatever other means he can devise.

My whole life the Republican establishment required the R candidate to pass a litmus test of religious questions (being anti-abortion/Planned Parenthood for one) mixed with supporting politics that really mostly benefit rich successful people (free trade, low taxes at the top to have "trickle down"). But Trump has won the nomination and then the presidency without using this 30 year old playbook.

More than anything I hope this means the death of Reagan's GOP and the political careers of "real" conservatives like Ted Cruz. The Christian right was exposed as a cheap date that will vote for anyone with an R next to their name as long as he gives them something token like a VP that agrees with their policies. The rich and neocons have watched their party be hijacked by a guy who promises to strike down the kind of global trade deals (the kind where we trade them jobs for products) that have been inflating CEO bonus packages for decades.

No matter what Trump does or doesn't do as president, the thought process about what a Republican candidate HAS TO be has been broken forever. That is a good thing for the party and for American long term.

You seem to assume they're the honest god-fearing people they claimed to be.

Appears rather unimpeachable by now they never were.

It is hardly emotional. The rust belt didn't vote the way they did on emotions they did it on economics.

If this were about economics, then they would've voted for the people who labored to save their rusty economy during the bust. Or at least vote against those who vehemently fought against it the whole way. Instead they went for the OG birther.

If people were any sort of rational or thinkers, this should convince them of something, but regrettably we see on this forum that's not the case.

Trump is probably pretty moderate politically actually. We don't know for sure.

My point is he isn't what what Republicans have had to be for decades. The wall fell.

If you think he is some sort of conservative Christian ala Ted Cruz you aren't paying attention.

lol. rightfully claim a mandate. Something you never thought obama deserved, that bush obviously deserved, ....this dude didn't win the popular vote. GL with that mandate. They can't defend against a filibuster.

what the hell does a mandate mean, anyway?

another thing: I kept hearing about the steady and terrifying march of evil liberalism in this country on these forums. Up until Tuesday, the only office in the feds, states, municipality that conservatives didn't control was the White House, now you dudes got it. Conservative dominace for nearly 6 years, but you never called a mandate then?

why now? the most unpopular elected official and candidate in history, who lost the popular vote. Alrighty there, Rodger Dodger. :D

Hey, maybe that "mandate" will allow him to more quickly back away from all those promises like tearing down the ACA, building that wall. It's only been 2 days--who knows how many more of those "promises" that you voted for will erode by tomorrow.

He will flog them into submission. The only reason why they went rogue before is because they didn't think he could win. Now that he has won he can play by his own rules.

And yes, I hope the GOP is dead. Good riddance, time for a new R party that is far more realistic for a modern age and far less accepting of sniveling SJW brats.

and you just elected one, behind your army of self-hating cuck basic bitches. Watch as your Donald continue the stream of liberal social progress that keeps you wetting your bed every day.

lol--flog them into submission. It's like you think your little bros on Twitter that were out grabbing pussies and shoving HCG into your balls have this guy's ear. You didn't win this election for him.

Well Donald Trump is now officially a politician. That means we the American people assume he won't keep his campaign promises and blame it on *reasons*. Building the wall becomes the newest closing Guantanamo Bay.

He needs to focus on his Supreme Court pick as that is a key place where he will either sink or swim with the current Congress.

The guys he has lined up to take over various offices of the government don't scream "pretty moderate", but that's just me. Garland seems pretty moderate. Trump could nominate him. But will he? I guess that depends on whether he's serious about being everybody's president. :p

The National Fascist Party has a certain charm to it.
