The best thing about Morpheus 2.0

THE LOGO

Morpheus 2.0 has a new, uglier interface, the only thing I like about it is the new logo. Downloading is pretty slow, gnutella would probably be faster since you have to connect to all the people that have the song, then it searches for active people along those people who have the song, so the time it takes to download is mediocre, but the wait time sucks. Installation was one of the weirdest ones though. It first needed another Java file, then something else, not like this was bad, but it needed so many extra things that should have been included in the original download. I have DSL so it doesn't matter, but yeah, on dialup, a 5.1mb file takes around 30 minutes :|

I believe he's refering to the newer software version released after Kazaa (Sharman Networks) cut their connection. They had to migrate to the Gnutella network, and they appear to have used very old client code.

They moved to the Gnutella network ALONG time ago, maybe with version 1.4 or something.. I havent tried it since it was on the KaZaA network, but I did try Morpehous 2.0 yesterday.. Its completly 100% Java, which is neat. It was the first full and completly java app I have ran. It didnt have enough configuration options, and I didnt like all the stuff it seemed to install, so I toasted it. I'll stay with KaZaA lite and WinMX 3.22 for now.

For the record, Morpheus 2.0 is based upon Jtella, a pure Java client(much like LimeWire) that hasn't seen any real development for almost 2 years.:Q The current version of Morpheus as a result, doesn't support recent innovations such as Ultrapeers, and it doesn't like to upload to some of the more popular Gnutella clients. Oh, and it comes with some hijackware called WurldMedia, which hijacks your browser in order to get affiliate points with many major retailers, so that they get part of the sale(so instead of going to Amazon.com directly, you'll go through an affiliate link). Be smart, don't touch Morpheus with a 10ft pole.

From all the horrid reviews I've been seeing, I wonder why CNET gave it an 8 out of 10?
