I'm using Winxp 64, two 8800GTX SLI, 8 GB of DDR2 ram, Dual Core 2 E6850 3.0Ghz Intel. My Asus SLI Plus motherboard blew up on me. I had a power failure and I believe a surge spike took it out.

So, I need a new Mobo to go with my system. What's the best board available to overclock for a socket 775 running DDR2?

sli limits your choices... i'm having pretty good luck with a evga 750sli ftw... 450 fsb without too much drama with a q8200... it ran a 6750 at that, too...

Even if I don't stay with the SLI configuration. I could seperate the cards and put one in another system for the kids.

just built a 9550/p5q pro turbo that went to 4.0 gb with only core and dimm voltage boost... impressive, methinks... but i have a ud3p that works pretty well, too... i think that it's a toss up between the two... heat, memory, cpu will all factor in on what you get from either...

OK, this is what I decided to do.

It appears my Asus P5N32-E-SLI Plus mobo should still be under 3 year warranty. I'll just replace it and put that configuration in my son's computer.

Since Microcenter has the Intel i7-920 on sale for $199.99 I'm gonna get it along with a GA-EX58-UD5-X58 ATX board wigh 6 GB of DDR3 1600 (PC 12800).

I don't know if I'm gonna keep my two 8800GTX's and SLI them with the i7 os seperate them and just run one in each of the pc's to save some money.

I ended up spending $600 for the i7-920, GA-EX58-UD5 with the 6 GBs of DDR3-1600. I'll be runnignmy two raptor 150's in RAID, and have a 500 and 750 HDD's for storage. If monies permit latter I'll add another 6GB of the ram and take it to 12GB.

THEE best 775lga overclocking motherboards on the market are the UD3R & P, P45 boards - HANDS DOWN.

270$ for my old Asus Maximus Formula II (MIIF board) could only do 480fsb with my Q9650. 4Ghz wasn't a problem with a 450fsb, but try hitting 500+ fsb with a quad on any other board. 500fsb x 8 multi on my UD3R Gigabyte board all day long!!! 9 3/4hrs prime95 stable. That's one full cycle. Most P45 boards will do high fsb with a Wolfdale (dual core) e.g. ~ 550-600 with proper cooling but, you wanna upgrade to a quad core ? and we are talking a whole different ballpark. If your plans are to skip the 775 quad then pick a decent board. But wait!!! 114$ for a decent (snickers) UD3R or P board; WOW!!! Yah, I could of saved myself alot of money if I wasn't an Asus Loyalist for 8yrs. There may not be alot of posts in this thread shouting GIGABYTE UD3R or P but you better god damn believe me when I suggest you to get the Gigabyte board.

One small factor... X-fire ONLY - does not support SLI

EDIT: and I don't read entire threads sometimes! LOL - good luck with the i7! :D

I hear ya. It looks like I won't have to buy another Socket 775 board. I'll just replace my old one. Since I was all geared up to spend some money I figured I might as well move forward with the i7 stuff. I almost wish I would have got a chance to play with The UD3R to overclock the E6850. Oh wel, Thanks for the help. I heard the X58-UD5 is a nice boared to work with for the i7 stuff.

You made the right choice I think. I was considering an i7 for some AVCHD video editing with Final Cut Express but it seems the UD3R is a good choice for building a Hackintosh which is where I'm headed now :D Although I can't wait to get an i7 with maybe an Intel X SSD drive going
