Just wondering what everyone's opinion is about the huge influx of online stock brokers. I mean with all of their commercials now all over the place, are any of the any good ? I'm more of a "traditionalist" when it comes to these things, but I mean if a switch over could save me money, hey why not ? :)

Be very careful as there are many 'Fly by night' brokers on the net. Several have had Federal investigations lately. Hard to investigate and harder to prosecute.

datek is kick ass. I've got two accounts. One on suretrade (owned by the same company as quick and reily) and one on datek that i just got. You can email the people at datek at 11pm and get an answer back within 2 hours usually. They say at most 6 hours and you get an answer. Trade executions are super fast on datek, they have the free streamer tool and they own the isld exchange (probably why the trade executions are so fast). You can sign up at www.datek.com/comedy i think for a comedy central deal and you get 10 free trades, I think a trade is $8. Suretrade is ok, but they are slower on service, no real time quotes either.

take a look at Gomez they have rating on many online financial services. As to which is best it depends on what sort of features you want/need.

I've been very happy with Fidelity, mostly because they always answer the phone and have an office about a mile from my house. They answer the phone 24 hours a day, on the first ring, seven days a week.

I had an account with etrade. Getting phone support from them was like running a staring contest. Who's going to blink first? Rarely the person who is supposedly answering the phone.

There's a lot but the one thing I like about Suretrade is you don't need to plop down $1000 just to get started (unless things have changed). If you have a casual investor like me who just wants to try things out, Suretrade is great to throw a hundred here and there.
