What the Best Newsgroup Service out there. I joined Agent's Newsgroup service and it's been down for 1 month

Help me out

Thanks n advance

This topic has been discussed a lot. A search, wouldn't hurt.

I use Newshosting.com Unlimited downloads, 6 logins and good retention. It maxes me out just about all the time.

Edit: I really don't know what's makes giganews and easynews so popular. Easynews is $9.99/month for 20gigs. $5.00 more and you have unlimited at newshosting.com. Giganews has unlimited but its $24.99 a month? That's almost double Newshosting.

The best value? Newshosting. usenetserver.com offers the same but they were down a lot.

I suggest usenetserver.com. You can't go wrong at least trying them with the 3 day trial for $3. It has always maxed out my connection but that isn't that hard when you have POS Charter pipeline.

I've had good results with them as well, although they did have the data crash about a month ago.

I'd say Easynews. Their service is rock solid, and thier web interface and global search are invaluable to me.

Honest question here. I've always known newsgroups to be a good place to umm acquire certain files but now I'm wondering what else I can do with this. Where's the best place to get started in learning how to use newsgroups for what they're really meant to do?

For me, every connection increases my speed, so being limited to 6 would kinda suck when 8 doesn't even max me out (that max Grabit supports) of the 10 I can use from Giganews.
Plus I share a GNews account, so it ends up about the cost of Easynews, but I can have up to 8 connections if I'm the only one using it.

Easynews is good, but it feels slow to me.. I get an average of 150k/s when I know my pipe can handle more

The absolute best in terms of performance, speed, retention, and reliability: it's a toss-up between Easynews and Giganews, as both are equally superior in all these regards. Advantage with Giganews is that they have an all-u-can-download option for $24.99/month, whereas Easynews doesn't have any all-u-can-download price option (it's just per so many gigabytes). Advantage with Easynews is their web interface which lets u download from the web instead of having to use a news reader.

Newshosting is pretty good, popular and kind of a best bang for your buck option. $15/month, good speeds, good 40 day binary retention, pretty good reliability.

Usenetserver (UNS) is another best bang for your buck option, and a very popular provider. Note though they are rather notorious for having reliability issues with their servers.

Astraweb is another one, not too great on speeds though (last time i had them they only offered 2Mb and a 4 connection max), and average reliability.

Octanews and Teranews are a couple of others. Not too good though, from what i hear. They're more filler type servers for people with cheap free ISP provided newsgroup access.

I highly doubt that newshosting wouldn't max out your connection

It maxes out my 5Mbit connect. I'm thinking about bringing my laptop onto campus and testing that out to see if I can max it out more. I just realized RR offers 10Mbit for $10/month more.
