i'd set 'Thief - Deadly Shadows' "Shalebridge Level' against ANY videogame level for "creepy" - set in a haunted orphanage turned mental hospital now abandoned . . . it is horror of the highest level and it succeds by what it implys rather that what 'jumps' in your face. . . . kinds like
the exorcist's horror.
i haven't played Bloodlines yet . . . it is buggy and still isn't bargain bin.

(i'm also waiting for KotOR 2 to go bargain bin}
Shalebridge was good. But so is the Painkiller orphanage level and Bloodlines haunted hotel. Bloodlines is more like the first part of Shalebridge, the real scary part. Shalebridge loses something when you get into the second part, at least until the end.
There is another great quest line in Bloodlines, the one about the video tape that shows people supposedly getting killed by gremlin-esque monsters. Man, that was a freaky quest.
I remember when I was telling a friend about Bloodlines and I summed it up by stating that it basically takes a jab at every single type of horror. Theres the zombie invasion graveyard, the psychiatrists house, the old sewers that pre-date nearly everything in the city, the haunted hotel, the slasher murders, the freaky monsters/hellraiser routine. They really just did an extremely great job on a lot of the quests and giving them themes. The sewers were probably my favorite, because of how they were sectioned off and each section had a theme to it that really gave you a great idea of the date, I also liked the ambient voices during the sewers.
