The best gaming moniter!

21" CRT's are nice but extremely heavy. I have a Sony G420S 19 inch flatscreen and the quality is excellent. It even has 2 inputs and built in speakers.
 
Great question! The 19"+ range for gaming LCD's is quite limited. The resolution for these screens seems to max at 1600x1200. Many are waiting for the 16ms or less response time from a panel this size....... and remain waiting. Right now the best seems to be about 25ms. Also look for a panel with a high contrast ratio and high brightness. Make sure it has DVI as well as hook it up to a decent video card.

Some of the better monitors mentioned include: Samsung 191 or 192T, Planar PX191, NEC 1980SX or 1920NX, Dell 1901FP.

Larger monitors like the Planar PL201, NEC 2080UX, Samsung 213T are also considered decent.

I am still debating whether to get a fast, bright, 17" LCD (like the Hitachi or Planar PX171) or a larger 19-20" LCD with the 25ms response time but 1600x1200 resolution.

It's been a while since I've played decent games (I have a new machine on order right now). What is the typical resolution that people are playing games at anyway? When using an LCD it is often recommended to use it at its native resolution for best results. If I buy a panel with a native resolution of 1600x1200 but the game won't allow that, then I might be wasting my time! Thanks.

 
Im runnin 1600x1200 on my 15" laptop screen with no probs, great for headshots on CS surprisingly. Anyway, someone posted earlier today that some new LCD's, I think by LG, are 20 or 21 inches and run at 16ms for less than $2000. Way expensive if you ask me. To think, you could have a tripple monitor setup of 20+" if you went CRT for that price.
 
you guys are retarted, he has a specific cash limit and wants to know of a good monitor for it. i would say the $200 kds xf-9b from wal-mart (19"). 19 inch monitors run optimally at 1280x1024 at 85hz, but can do 1600x1200 at 75 hz at best (that ive seen) this is fine as long as you dont look at anything white.
 
Sony CPD-e440/B

$300 19" Trinitron and its black and looks nice. for gaming 1600x1200 it can run well at high refresh and for web browsing etc i use 1280x1024 and it looks great. imo if you can afford it, then you gotta go for it.

Your sir must have the eyes of a hawk. I run 1280x960 on a 19" CRT and still find things small.

it doesnt make the image any smaller... just the hud
 
19" CRT wise the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB or Iiyama Vision Master Pro 454 are very good choices.
 
An ugly question as everyone has different styles and tastes in what they want to see. Gaming is high priority for me and i settled on a Mitsubishi from Dell (about $299). Been using it now for nearly a month and very impressed. A special function that i like, is a "hot button" that jumps up the screen brightness 1 or 2 levels, that comes in handy when the game background suddenly goes very dark, or else the room gets overly bright.

my previous monitor was a kds AV19F; i must've gotten lucky because that monitor was excellent and worked perfectly for nearly 3 years then poof lol. I also do alot of digital photography and editing, so i'm rather picky about colors and sharpness, and after viewing alot of monitors and checking the stores and reviews, settled on the Mitsubishi. Try and actually look at the different models so see what appeals to you.

I have been searching for a good flat panal and I have been having difficulty myself. I want 32bit color in a 17" with atleast 1280x1024. But I am finding these requirements to be a bit hard to find in a Monitor. Maybe one of you can help?
 
1600x1200 Unreal 2 looks amazing on my ViewSonic Perfectly Flat P90F i dunno what these guys are talking about

and its only 239 bucks on Newegg.com I think

You might also want to check out NEC 19" Model FE990 as it supports even up to 1792 X 1344 at a respectable 68HZ

and if you want to spend 281 then ViewSonic Model P95F+B 19" CRT PerfectFlat Monitor will satisfy since it supports up to astonishing 2048 x 1536

So yes you can easily play 1600x1200 on a good 19inch monitor with 75/85HZ refresh rate and you have to remember most games dont even support higher than 1600x1200 and those that do will choke your videocard
