I find it disturbing that you dont even INCLUDE Daniel Day Lewis

Who?

I hope you are joking

I've never seen any of his movie. His resume isn't too long either. Can't even recall what he looks like

This thread is so disappointing. Paul Newman has been the quintessential actor for the last forty plus years. I guess it?s hard to explain that to some 20 something crowd that probably never saw Hud, or The Hustler, or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof or Cool Hand Luke. Where is Sean Penn? Easily one of the most gifted actors of today? I guess Brad Pitt sucks also to you folks. Harrison Ford sure did some heavy action sequences in Regarding Henry and K-19 Working Girl and Mosquito Coast.

where's johnny depp? no other actor played a role where he wasn't the same character in another movie. a lot of those actors always acted 1 or 2 similar roles.

EDIT: hehehe nm i found it, unless, the OP saw my post and edited it? :p

anywys, tom hanks is up there for his ability to play varying roles. He's very versaitile and good at it.

deniro, yes, but all his roles seemed the same :(, same w/ pacino. it's always that coool hardass w/ that funny headshake hehe.

Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks.

Edit: After thinking about it, id say brad pitt had more difficult to play roles, while tom hanks had some great opportunities for great movies.

In raw acting ability, id give the nod to Brad Pitt. Check out some of his harder roles to play like in 12 monkeys, Snatch, Troy, and for the girls out there, Meet Joe Black.
OK, I agree that Brad Pitt is a good actor, but "Troy?" Dude... you're fired.

You would call Troy bad acting?

Wow, I thought Al Pacino would have scored way higher than he did. I mean, c'mon. Anyone see Scarface? The Godfather? Devil's Advocate? And I think it's safe to say that Pacino is a hell of a lot cooler than Tom Hanks.

I voted for Tim Robbins.

Another guy who never gets any stroke for his acting abilities is Robin Williams.
I have yet to see a movie he's in that he doesn't do an exceptional job.
Travolta kicks ass, too.

but in those roles, it's always that "cool badass" role. always that stroll, always that head shaking talk. aside from maybe dog's day and godfather (1 and 2), it's all the same.

Hanks..hanks where to begin? The Terminal, Saving Private Ryan, Cast Away. These are very different roles, very different personalities, different characters. He does a great job convincing you that he's not Tom Hanks, but Victor karvoski, or whoever he plays.

Same goes for Johnny Depp.

Would someone name atleast 3 good Tom Hanks movies. I think he is good, but definately overrated. He hasn't really had that many memorable performances in my opinion.

Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan... I could go on for another 30 minutes but you just said 3, oh well. And wow are you dense if you can't find his performances in those movies memorable.

Philadelphia...total crap
Forrest Gump...excellent movie
Saving Private Ryan...Other than the opening scene the movie was pretty rank

I'm sorry, but you sir, are a fvcking moron. If you can't find brilliance in those 3 than stick to movies like The Hot Chick or Spanglish I guess. Crap or not, you canNOT say Hanks wasn't incredible in it sacraficing his body pretty much to make him look sick in the end. And to even call SPR pretty rank is an insult to lesser WWII movies. I know opinions are like assholes, but honestly, what movie performances do you think ARE memorable?

And you are calling me the moron. If he is so great why hasn't he come out with a decent movie in 10 years?

Apollo 13? The Green Mile? Cast Away? Hell, I even thought Catch me if you Can and Road to Perdition were good. He'll be in the Da Vinci Code movie too, so that might be promising, but the way you look at him I don't think anything he'll do will impress you which is a shame. Other than that, blame Hollywood for not "coming out" with decent movies in the last 10, Hanks can only star in them.

I forgot about Road to Perdition, that was a pretty good flick. I also enjoyed Apollo 13. I did like his performance in big.

Catch me if you can was terrible. I read the book years before it came out. The book is nothing like the movie. They completely changed and omitted numerous things in it.

Hah book elitists like you tick me off. I'm a Lord of the Rings fanatic yet I still found pleasure in watching the movies because I knew they were movies based on the book. Who cares if they match up 100%? Or even 50% for that matter. Look at the Bourne series. Those are some damn fine action movies yet they are NOTHING like the books at all.

Book elitists please move along!

Hanks is awesome. You can't just look at him based on one movie here one movie there. We are talking about ACTING. I cannot name one role he has been in that I have not enjoyed. Don't forget his slew of older comedies when you're talking about Hanks. Big, Bachelor Party, Turner & Hooch, etc. These aren't all great movies but we aren't talking about greatest movies here. We're talking about great actors and one quality of a great actor is to stand out in an otherwise crappy film.

I am not a book elistist by any stretch of the means. There is a big difference between altering a book that is fact as opposed to altering a fiction novel. The characters were completely different in Catch Me if You Can. Example: Abagnale was Buddy Buddy with his father in the movie, but in the book his father was the first person he screwed. In fact his father rarely was mentioned in the book. Abagnale was more of an arrogant ass in the book instead of his more loveable character in the movie. I just don't feel that Non-fiction books should be altered. Would you like war movie that completely disregarded what happened in history and just put what ever they want in there?
