Talk to me.

I have plenty of money to burn, but I want to make sure I spend it wisely i.e. on the best 24inch monitor.

Enlighten me?

P.S. Are there any soon to be released 24inch panels that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Well, whatever monitor you decide to go with, don't forget about upgrading your graphics card. You will most certainly need at least an 8800gt to play newer games at native resolution. I have an evga 8800gt and a Benq 24", which is fantastic.

I don't know of any 24" LCDs better than the Benq, since it has a good panel, and lots of (properly working) inputs. It needs calibration to really shine, and the menus are jacked up, but otherwise it's a great LCD. Maybe someone else can suggest another LCD?

Thanks for the input, themisfit610. Would this monitor you're using by chance be the Benq FP241W(Z?)?

I've been looking to purchase a 24inch monitor for about a year now, and the monitors I've looked at so far are:

1. Dell 2407 A04
2. Benq FP241W Z
3. Samsung SM-245T - ATM this seems to be the best panel from my limited research, although I may be wrong?

Yet I?m still not fully satisfied that I would have made the right decision by going with any one of these three monitors.

Thing is, I?ll be looking to keep the monitor for around 3 years, so I want to make sure I buy into the right monitor.

I don't have the Z, I have the regular FP241W.

That Samsung looks really nice (especially the 27 inch 1920x1200 variant... mmmm), but no video inputs, just DVI and VGA. I love HDMI / component / S-video / composite inputs!!!

Pretty sure there's an NEC 24" that costs more than the ones you listed but may be the best of the bunch. Any of those 3 is probably safe though and I don't think its too wise to keep waiting as it seems many of the 24" are taking a step in the wrong direction towards their 22" counterparts, TN panels with fewer inputs etc. The Dell apparently has similar inverse ghosting to my Gateway so that's something I'd try and look at first-hand to make sure it isn't a deal-breaker. But ya if money wasn't an issue I'd look at the new 30" Dell 3008 or Gateway 30". ;)

1) NEC LCD2490WUXI-BK - H-IPS, best panel type, better colors and everything. These are like $1000+ or so.
2) BenQ FP241W - Tons of inputs, DVI, Composite, VGA, S-Video, Component, HDMI. Make sure you get Sept 2007 model, NCIX has the newest I believe. These run around $550-600. I have this one, it's great. These are being discontinued soon, so get them before they are replaced with TN panels.
3) LG L245WP - No DVI input but has most inputs. Good reviews as well. Can find them sometimes around $450 if they are on sale. Around $600ish otherwise. Make sure you get the latest model as well. I think there were issues with VGA not running 1080p resolutions. No clue where the best place to get them are. Best Buy usually has them on sale.
4) Dell 2407WFP - Was going to get this, until I saw the others. But this is something you should go with if you can't seem to get any of the others. Get the non-HC model, not only is it cheaper, but the HC has some sort of ghosting problem. (Even admitted by Dell and they won't be fixing them)

All of these have good reviews.

If money is no object then the NEC. Otherwise the others are fine.

Im running a Sony FW900 24 inch crt. bought it on ebay last summer for $350. Its simply the greatest monitor I have ever used, and I will even go so far as to say its hands down the greatest gaming/video computer monitor ever made IF you can get over the size.

Arnold Govenator!?! Is that you? I remember my 20 inch CRTs. Those 24 inch CRT must weigh a Canadian Ton (those jokes worked a lot better when the Canadian dollar was worth less than 70 cents American).

Too big.

24inch is the perfect size for my desk.

Mount it to the wall. Seriously. Just get a shallow desk, which now only has to hold your keyboard and mouse (and 27 piles of papers, bills, empty soda cans, half empty game boxes, cordless phone with caller ID, spindle of blank DVDs, general crap, etc), and only has to be deep enough so your knees don't hit the wall. Visiting my parents over the holidays, and my knees are hitting the desk support as I type this. Stupid computer desk.

I got my LG L246WP for $485 after tax at Bestbuy with a rewardzone coupon. Awesome monitor, which has a swivel base and uses the same panel as the Benq 24'.
