THE best 120mm fan in CFM/dB?

Hey, you guys.

I recently built a new system (see sig) with an old case. That thing spoils airflow like the airflow is candy, and it's taking the candy from a baby; me. :p I'm looking to get the Antec P180 when I can pay for it (2-4 weeks from now), and I'd like to get some intake/outtake fans. Silent fans.

I was thinking this: 75+ CFM per fan, <32 dB. You think you could find some of those for me :)?

TIA.

If you aren't going to use a fan controller, these are probably as close as your going to get.

Triple Blade 120x38

120x38 will fit in the front of the P180, but depending on the fan there could be clearance issues which could keep you from using the upper drive bay.

Evercool Aluminum fan:

Dimension: 120x120x25 mm
Air Flow: 79 CFM
Speed: 2000 RPM
Noise: 36 dBA
Voltage: 12 VDC
Current: 0.28 A
Power: 3.36 W

This was the best I could find when I was looking for such an item

Silent fans and then you give 32dB as the max volume :D

The antec tricools that the P180 ships with blow a little less than 65cfm if memory serves at the middle speed setting. They aren't loud fans at all and at that speed the major noise is going to be due to airflow anyway.

Stick with the stock fans, try them out for a few days and then think about using higher CFM ones. Personally i saw more improvement going to a AC silencer than i did from swapping out the top and rear fans for 1400rpm akasa fans.

Fan performance is not subjective.

if you are a fan of Akasa fans, are you a fan of yourself?

I personally prefer Nexus. They are hand picked YateLoons, and they are the quietest I've come across. Dead silent when undervolted.

I REALLY want to read a link that conferms this supposed cherry picking of Yate Loons
to be re-branded NeXus. I don't believe it. NeXus are just Yate Loons with a resistor in
the 12V wire.
So you buy a Yate Loon with a resistor in the 12V feed(called NeXus), then you undervolt
it some more...Then you call it quiet!! Something wrong with that picture.

Most decent fans are quiet when undervolted. The Chinaflo 120x38s I've undervolted
however grumbled in protest.

Undervolt Delta Triple Blade fans in low or medium speed or go Akasa.
The DTBs in low/medium speed will start/run at 3.5V in absolute silence. No real air flow
but silent when on a Sunbeam Rheobus.

Plz do a search of this forum reguarding thermaltake fan/s or TT fan/s before posting
TT's dishonest specs.

The search function is at the top of the page.

Ooh, it sounds so sexy. I didn't find it where I live, but I did find the 1927, which is red. Is that the same one?

Thermaltake is infamous for spec'ing their (typically variable, LED) fans at maximum setting for air flow, and minimum setting for noise. 78 CFM at 21 dBA? Ha ha, funny.

Yeah, Dead silent when udervolted, because it isn't pushing any air. It barely pushes any air to begin with.

I think they push 44 CFM or so @ 12V. Not quite the same as "not pushing any" even with hyperbole taken into account.

Actually they push 36.87 CFM at 12v at 22.8 db. Undervolt that and get less than 30 CFm, not worth it in my opinion. But yes, if you take my exagerration out, technically it does push air.

I like Nexus -- great fans at the quiet end. But this thread is not about relative silence at however pathetic air flow you can get, it's about good airflow with tolerable noise.

At the very quiet end, the major noise factors would be bearing, motor, and vibration. At the high airflow end, the major noise factor is air turbulence -- bearing and motor, etc., noises are drowned out. You're generally looking at two different fan types for maximizing performance at one level of air flow vs. the other.

So for high airflow fans, you'd look for interesting blade or enclosure techniques. The 3-blade fans mentioned earlier would fall into the "interesting blade" category.

In the "interesting enclosure" category, I'd mention the Arctic Cooling semi-open back, deep-well exhaust-only fans. In my experience (which doesn't extend to the 3-blade Deltas and many others), they give superior flow for tolerable noise. They do buzz a bit until they're close to dead in terms of airflow, so don't compete with the likes of Nexus at the quiet end.

Look at Scythe's new case fans. It's a series of three 120mm fans at three speed and sound levels - and extremely quiet - and built like tanks (heavy build frames. They're called S-Flex S-FDB . . . scythe-usa.com.

those things are rubbish. I have 1 and hey have very bad bearings that will make grinding noises in a few months.

Get some San Ace fans and undervolt them for a perfect balance in noise and airflow (and pressure if your using them on a radiator for WCing)
