That was a perfectly good call. You can't just drill the QB into the ground with your helmet in an attempt to injur him. Just like a corner can't pile drive a bengal player over his back.

oh - and missed FG. Tie game.

Wow, you really hate QB protection, don't you?

It's alittle overprotective. If they can't take a hit every once and a while they should be playing touch football.

Horse sht... yes you can... It's football... not figure skating. You can and should hit your opponent with everything you've got... the most physical team should win. As long as you're not helmet spearing people, or blatantly taking shots after the ball is gone... there should be no penalty PERIOD.

Maybe we should start doing 2 hand touch football.

At least the bengals lost... they didnt deserve to win that game...

Taking a hit is one thing. But being wide open to get nailed in the ribs every single play does lend the QB to be more vulnerable. You can tackle passer all day. Just don't make it flagrant.

How funny is it that someone is complaining about the Bengals getting something they don't deserve off the roughing the passer rule after what happened to them last time with Carson Palmer. He is one of the big reasons they made the rule!!

The rule is silly though. I was watching the Philly/Atlanta game and a Falcon LB went after the Philly QB with his hands up trying to block the pass. He ran into the QB and his facemask hit the bottom of the QBs facemask. Penalty.

Ridiculous call as the player wasn't even trying to tackle the QB.

The rule is probably sound because QBs are vulnerable similar to how punters and kickers are but the officials have no clue how to correctly apply them apparently.

I am sorry if you made a ridiculous statement. Not even wrestling should the most physical person always win.

If you think that should have not been a penalty, and spearing a QB and all this other bullshit shouldn't be penalty's... and the most physical team always wins?! Well, hes right nad you know nothing about sports.

You are allowed to tackle the quarterback and take him down hard as evidenced here. Roethlisberger said he'd never been hit so hard in his life, and this was AFTER smashing headfirst into the side of a car.

What you can't do is purposefully put your full body weight on top of him and drive him into the ground, shoulder or helmet planted firmly in his ribcage or chest to inflict maximum damage. You have to make an attempt to not land right on top of him. That's the rule, and there's nothing wrong with it. This is not the UFC. The object is to cross the goal line, not injure your opponent.

Of course I can't say I wasn't a little bit happy when Siragusa took Rich Gannon out of the game in the 2000 AFC Championship game :)
