The Beginning of World War III - How'll it go down?

It's inevitable I guess. There was a thread recently about China's agressive stance against Taiwan and the US.

Edit: I forgot about the midlde east!

Ready - here's my (not so) well thought out idea of how it might go down.
India vs Pakistan --> Eventually one of the countries will nuke each other
China vs Taiwan ---> Eventually China'll take over Taiwan
Israel vs Palestine ---> Tensions

So what'll happen is (just my thoughts) that the US will interfere into one of these issues, support India and Taiwan and... Israel/Palestine, and a war will erupt.

I spent a full 2 minutes thinking about this. Anyone with a better history background want to chime in?

"A user by the name of The Pentium Guy posted his thoughts in a world known as "ATOT' (AnandTech Off Topic) on the beginning of World War III. Little did he know that some Chinese communist officials were reading, and actively participating (" Blah, go get some Taco Bell. ") in his thread, secretely communicating with the CIA officials that were coincidently reading this thread.

Starting from a flamewar on the 13th largest forum on the world, Mao Zedong was infuriated by the lack of support from particular forum members. And so, he deployed all 1 of his nuke(s) against the US and accidently missed the target city of <Insert Big City>, but instead the missle backfired back into his own country. Infuriated, he beheaded all of his engineers and army officials. Eventually, he was the only standing soldier in the army.

And so the story unfolds...."

I'm not sure but let's try to keep this thread serious as it's pretty interesting atm.

Of course they couldn't and thus they never would. An even more important reason it is not in the best interest of China to go to war with the US is always overlooked in these stupid threads. China NEEDS the US to sell it's crappy products to....it's own population is largely poor and unable to support their manufacturing economy by buying their own products.

Yeah, I'm sorry for that comment I made earlier ("WWIII started on Anandtech") - I want to hear your serious opinions.

It won't, hopefully. Increased globalization and cross-border trade will bind us closer than nationality does - it's never good business to kill your customers.

But I can't help respond to this - China? China couldn't even win an all-out (barring nukes) land war with the U.S., not to mention all its allies that would come onside. What good is a million man army when it doesn't dare move out in the open for fear of being bombed to bits?

Don't think there will be one. I think democracy in the middle east will stabilize the region, and Pakistan and India are already more buddy/buddy these days.

China vs Taiwan is sticky, as that's a real problem. That would be the biggest possibility in my mind, but I don't think that will happen as China depends on the rest of the world for it's economy. All it would take is an embargo by Europe and the US, and they would go broke.

For a war to be on a proper scale to be a World War, it can't be anything less than 4 countries(composing 2 sides) engaged in nuclear warfare; anything less than that fails to capture the scope of what a World War would be.

Sony sells North Vietnam like 30,000 "Playstation3"'s on eBay. N. Vietnam recieves 30,000 Playstation2's instead. E-mailing gets them nowhere, and they get no help from PayPal. They order a bunch of RCA to coaxial cables from Tiger Direct in which Iraq is still waiting for numerous rebates. The final straw is when their Windows 98 machines BSoD while coding firmware for their new missiles. They get pissed, Nuke Sony headquarters, eBay Headquarters and Microsoft Headquarters. Hello WW3.

Maybe if the Russians backed up the Chinese. Russian Technology + Chinese/Russian Manpower. Not China by itself, but one day in the far future China will eventually be the only superpower like we're enjoying now.

i dont worry...anymore...wooried a lot when i was younger in living in EU since we people from EU always had that fear while in the cold war...and we (Germany) were literally in the middle between East and West.

ANYWAY the war itself might not really be an issue anymore - what counts is the RESULT. Not even talking about deaths now. But economic and ecologic destruction.

I just remember the recent "world after oil thread" and i read that stuff....and from that POV it might be very well the case that (at least the us) will be in a similiar to "post WWIII" endtime (Mad Max....lol :) scenario in about 50 years...and it doesnt even need a war for that.

Also...the signs are very clear that we are already on the way to economic and ecologic destruction WITHOUT nukes....who cares about nukes...dont need 'em.

Agree that China will PROBABLY dominate economically (DOES ALREADY)..states will be in chaos and anarchy, dollar wont be worth **** (is already on the way)....so nuking would only add the topping on the already rotten cake :)

Yeah, i know, very postive view on things ...

--> other scenario would be the blue states nuke the red states :)

China could never mount an attack on US soil. And to take that further, as a defending force, china still would not be able to stop a all-out US invasion force.
