The Battle Continues: El Cheapo Duron 1300 vs. Celeron 1300

W/O reading it... duron should be the winner.. unless intel redid the celeron 1300 w/o any public knowledge.. heeh..

Interesting... I wonder how AMD locked the multiplier.... sounds like the L1 bridge is no longer used?

<< In the routine overclocking tests, we noticed that the multiplier of the Duron 1300 was locked. Even after bridging the L1 contacts, we still weren't able to release the multiplier. >>

🙁
that's no good. hope it was just a bad pick

Locked multipliers...L1 not working. That sux! This duron can't do 133fsb then (unless your chip can take 1733mhz, or Duron 2100+ 😉 )

Tom already did a comparison of the Duron 1.2 vs. the Celeron 1.3 and pronounced the Duron the winner. I see little point in re-doing the comparison with a Duron 1.3GHz. It's obvious the Duron would be faster as even it's slower brother outperformed the Celery 1.3, and it's not hard to extrapolate the boost an extra 100MHz would give the Duron.

<<Why screw with a 1300MHz Duron when you can get a faster Athlon XP for $6 more? >>

That couldent possibly make more sense.

Couldn't agree more. The lower end Duron's are the only ones worth buying now (the 1GHz namely) and even that, it's tough to justify not taking the 1GHz T-Bird for only $25 more.

Because MANY people don't buy off the internet so can't get the same prices we can, and you can't buy an AthlonXP in every country in the world for $6 more then a Duron 1.3GHz.

It just came out, that's why. Wait a week and see the 1.3GHz Duron fall to the point where it'll be $20-30 cheaper than the 1.33GHz AXP. Remember, anyone even considering a Duron is on a hella cheap budget, where the $19 difference between a $75 1.2GHz Duron and a $94 1.2GHz T-bird @ Newegg is enough reason to not get the T-bird (even if it was a 1.2GHz AXP, it still wouldn't be worth it to money conscience people, since they'll never notice the difference anyway).

Same as above.

Good point. Never really thought of that. Really my point is more that while the Duron 1.3GHz will offer decent performance, but it's only worth buying if it's cheaper than a equivilantly clocked t-Bird/AXP.
