Growing up in Woodstock, NY... Levon was a part of my childhood. Being a drummer, he meant even more to me. I can't even describe how I feel right now... but I will mention the one moment that stands out with how close my family was with them:

My step-mom worked close with Sandy (Levon's wife) at Levon's studio. I'll never forget walking in one morning (I had to meet my dad there as he was fixing some shit around the barn) and instantly being greeted by Levon who handed me a coke, a slice of pizza, and a joint. This was his breakfast...every morning. This isn't mentioning all the midnight ramble's I've attended.... the last one being a month or so ago when Mumford and Sons was the guest -- incredible show. They were so intimate.

Needless to say, I'll miss that bastard.

RIP Levon -- Have a coke, a slice, and hit for me. I know I won't have to ask you twice...

I honestly had no idea he was 71. I just pictured him in his 50's for whatever reason. GPN kept everyone abreast over his condition over the last couple weeks. Really bummed.

Interesting. Based on his more recent film roles, he looked to me like he was in his 80s or 90s, and already half-past gone.

But now I realize that his emaciated and shrunken look was likely due to chemo.

:(

But, living that kind of life and all the way up to 71 is nothing to sneeze at.

I just have a mental picture of him from a while ago that keeps coming up from the filing cabinet.
It's selective, and only applies to musicians. Other victims include The Who.

I'm like that with WWII vets. I think of a guy in his 60s. Grey hair, but still out kickin' ass. Not someone who's pushing into his 90s. 60s is on track for a Vietnam vet. Time flies... :^/
