The Bahamas ... which island should I go to?

I'm planning a trip in the summer w/my GF to go to the bahamas, but I am not sure which place to actually go to. I am looking for some suggestions from people on these boards as to which islands to go to.

We are looking to go to one with BEAUTIFUL beaches. We want it to be pretty relaxing. We also want to go to a place where there are a lot of activities to do during the day (hiking up mountains, going on tours through jungles and stuff). We also want to go to a place that is not dead a night life time.

So do any of you have any suggestions or experiences you have had in the bahamas? leave em here plz, thanks!

Most of the Bahamas is terribly poor, to the point where they collect rain wate on their roofs. Stick to the resorts if you really want to go there.

I've only been to Nassau and we pretty much stayed at the resort the whole time. We took one walk to a little flea market, but that was it.

went to Grand Bahamas and stayed at Wyndham Resort. check this for pics.

IMO thats the best and most relaxing beach I have ever seen. Then again, im the type of guy who likes deserted beaches.

We stayed in the resort most of the time. Didnt check out the night life too much cuz we were just lazy...but didnt seem like there was much of a night life (no clubs or anything)

It was an all inclusuive trip where breakfast lunch and dinner was included and the food was awesome!!!!! probably the best part of the trip. they had sooo much food. plus free drinks all day long on the beach.

if u do go there, dont go there over a holiday weekend (like memorial weekend). we went the weekend after memorial weekend and the place was quiet. Talked to some natives and they said the beaches were crawling with Europeans the weekend before. One thing I did miss out on were the topless sunbathers 🙁. oh well, id rather have the beach to myself rather than look at bewbies (beach was quite enough for my prude of a gf to go topless 😉)

edit: the only thing i didnt like was that there were a lot of seaweed on the beach!!
