Today was the eating of the philly roast pork sandwiches I made the other day. A good roll, the roast pork, jus, and sharp provolone. People often add broccoli rabe, but I didn't have any and honestly it isn't my thing.

Good eats!

I used to make a mean Reuben sammy at home, but then we moved out of the city and into the burbs...now I can't find a good Jewish deli to get a good cut for the Reuben. There's a Woodman's and a Caputo's close by, but it's not the same.

The corner butcher shop, the bookstore, and internet cafe's.....all dead as the Dinosaurs!

I'd like to think that if you are near Chicago you could find a decent butcher, but I know they are scarce, like delis.

Not so long ago I could get real pastrami, not this "pastrami round" crap, but haven't seen it in a couple years. So I make that and my own bagels when I have the time. People think Subway is a good sandwich shop and Taco Bell is the best in Mexican food. One of these days pushing a button on a microwave is going to take too much effort.

I took some pics of said sandwiches and the roast from whence it came. Maybe I can upload at some point. It came out really good and worth the time and effort. Dang cheap eats too. I figured I fed ten people for $25.00

I'm always on the lookout for good sandwich recipes, so please share! Yeah I'm with you on the pastrami issue, it's not as easy to find the real stuff these days. I used to have a good deli about 10 minutes from my apartment in the city, they had great pastrami, albeit pricey, but worth it.

And yes Subway is crap. I don't know how people can call that a good sandwich! The breads are pretty plain and their ingredients don't have any flavor. I think that's why they sell so many hot sandwiches that come smothered in sauces, as to hide the lack of flavor.

If I had to pick a chain, I'd say Potbelly's for sandwiches in my area.

The pastrami I got at Safeway last week was pretty decent. Not cheap though, it was about $12 or $13 a pound.
