how much better speakers are these compared to the altec lansings ACS54W 5 piece speaker system? I just got one for $46 plus $17 shipping or something. Is it worth it to go up $37 more to get these speakers? are the altec lansing speakers pretty good performing?

I have the BA4800, but I only use two of the speakers. My roomate in my dorm has the ACS54.

Let me put it this way. He's getting new speakers.

Its quite hard to hear chinese pop over the Deftones on any speaker set, but the BA4800 makes it more fun than ever to drown out SES and all those stupid whiny girls.

I find it hard to believe the BA4800 is worth 2x the price even of the ACS54X series. They are rated the same (20 watts satellite and 20 watt sub) and while they have nice looks, I highly doubt the sound could be a whole night-and-day different. Am I totally wrong? Should I drop $100 and try a set of these BA4800's out? 😀

Well.. The BA's are not exactly half price right now. Bestbuy.com has the BA4800's right now for $99.50 and free shipping. 🙂 Good deal?

Yes, night and day. The sats are clearer, the sub has waaaay more punch, and its just louder, and much clearer even at full loudness.

Its worth 50 more, but thats not saying the ACS54 isnt a good deal for its price.

Just to prove it, I will now conduct a test. I am going to set my BA4800 on full volume and time how long it takes for my father to come in like a frantic madman asking me to turn it down.

Ok, that's it. I've just ordered a set of the BA4800's. I guess worst case scenario is I sell my ACS54X and the BA4800s to get a Klipsch 5.1 😀

And that would be bad, because everyone knows what I think about Klipsch products 😀
