Currently not working, but should be in a couple of weeks. With the shift premium and OT after 8 hours (11.5 hour shift, gives 3.5 hours of OT) it would put me above the US average. Without it, below.

People assume 392,000 Rupees is nothing because of the conversion rate. What you have to keep in mind is the cost of *essential* living in India is dirt cheap. For that kind of money you can easily afford a house and even a servant to clean up. Most food items and other necessary goods are also extremely cheap in comparison. You can't just do a direct conversion and claim that it's ONLY 8000 a year. Only luxury and foreign items (name brand clothes, shoes etc) are nearing their US/Europe equivalent prices. But hey, you can still find a tailor that'll made you a damn good custom suit for about 50 or 60 USD :)

Edit.. BTW that 392,000 estimate is BS. They're only counting white collar workers. If they counted EVERY worker in India that value would be MUCH MUCH lower.
and I make above the national average. Although I work and play in NY which kinda taps me out pretty well.

Anyone watch Anthony Bourdain on the travel channel?

he did a show in India and he ate meals between 1-10 rupee's with generous portions
if someone is making that much in india, I'd say that's pretty damn good.

best thing to do is when you make some decent loot and have it saved up.

Move to a poor country. And you'll live like a king.

Just make sure to stay at home all the time. The thieves and beggers are aggressive in the US, I cant imagine a poor country. :(
