$8,000 for average worker in India? Wow, those guys make a lot of money. The average worker in China make only $1,000 a YEAR. And the white collar workers with college degree in big city like Shanghai only make $1,000 a month.
People assume 392,000 Rupees is nothing because of the conversion rate. What you have to keep in mind is the cost of *essential* living in India is dirt cheap. For that kind of money you can easily afford a house and even a servant to clean up. Most food items and other necessary goods are also extremely cheap in comparison. You can't just do a direct conversion and claim that it's ONLY 8000 a year. Only luxury and foreign items (name brand clothes, shoes etc) are nearing their US/Europe equivalent prices. But hey, you can still find a tailor that'll made you a damn good custom suit for about 50 or 60 USD
Edit.. BTW that 392,000 estimate is BS. They're only counting white collar workers. If they counted EVERY worker in India that value would be MUCH MUCH lower.
and I make above the national average. Although I work and play in NY which kinda taps me out pretty well.
