5'9"?

Short people got no reason to live.

Most people that are 6'+ just waste their height. I joke I would have signed a pro contract in something if I just were a little taller.... I could've been a baller

That, and we watch too much TV. I saw a recent study which said the average person watches 27.9 hours/week (or just under 4 hours/day), which explains why we're all such fatties. When I hear people complain that they don't have time for exercise, it's usually because they're unwilling to give up their TV time.

watching tv has nothing to do with it. that is just an excuse/reason people want to come up with. i probably watch more tv/movies/play games games than that 28/hour a week and am in good shape. it's just about eating right and exercising and making the time to do so.

28 hours of tv a week leaves 140 hours of time to do other stuff with. then take out 40 for working, and we'll say 49 for sleeping 7 hours a night on average, and that still leaves you with 51 hours of free time.

people are just lazy.

I don't really know if laziness is the best way to describe it; I think it boils down to 3 things:

1. No commitment
2. Too tired
3. Misconceptions

The biggest thing obvious is making a commitment to yourself to do the daily tasks to achieve your goal. That means doing them even when you don't feel like doing them, which is how you make progress - simple things, repeated every day. Eat healthy food every day. Exercise every day. Get plenty of sleep every day. None of it is hard, but because most people make an emotional go of things (like New Year's Resolutions) rather than a firm commitment, as soon as any kind of barrier pops up (too tired, didn't bring healthy food options, don't feel like it, not in the mood, etc.), they quit.

The second biggest one is that we're all walking drones. Lightbulbs enable us to stay up late, and TV & the Internet make it fun to do so. And when you're tired, everything is just one degree of too difficult, which makes it easy to ignore & skip. Too tired to cook, so you get fast food. Too tired to exercise, so you sit on the couch watching movies, eating junk food. Too tired to enforce the decision to go to sleep at a reasonable hour, so we stay up late. Everyone knows that when you get enough sleep, you feel great & everything is fun, but nobody wants to do it.

The third thing I think is that most people are operating under a lot of misconceptions about health & fitness. First of all, they think that exercise is the key to losing weight, when food is the real key. Change what & how much you eat & the pounds will fall right off. That leads into the second big misconception, that health food has to taste, well, healthy. If you're willing to cook (or buy pre-packaged options like Personal Trainer Food, which is like Jenny Craig for fitness buffs), you can eat some amazingly tasty meals, and you can learn how to do everything from Youtube. But again, if you're too tired to cook...haha.

So I don't think it's so much laziness as much as a collection of bad habits & misconceptions. Commit to a plan, go to bed early, learn how to cook, and you will not be fat for long! :awe:

all of your points boil down to people being lazy.

1. "doing things you dont want to do" - not doing so when there is a benefit, is being lazy. just like when you don't clean because you dont feel like doing it - that is being lazy.

2. "too tired to cook, so you get fast food" - again, that is simply being lazy.

3. "misconceptions about health" - again, this is because people are too lazy to educate themselves on the subject at hand. they would rather believe fads and "lose weight fast" bs methods instead of learning the correct ways.

Average Latino is 5'7 last I checked, so take into account average white male and black male are 5'10 and the growing Latino population, 5'9 is likely the American average.

Also, if you know someone that is 7' or more, there is a 1 in 7 chance they are currently in the NBA.

2. "too tired to cook, so you get fast food" - again, that is simply being lazy.
Eh, I've had some times where I was actually too tired to cook. Working 12s in the military actually means working 15s, and when those you get to work around 4:30 in the afternoon and leave around 8:00AM, having those last couple hours be the most work intensive due to morning rush, you are too tired after commuting home to cook. But, generally, yeah, you're lazy.

People need to learn that they don't need to cook every single meal in order to be healthy. My breakfast takes 5 minutes to make and is healthy (Oatmeal, vegetable juice, protein powder). There are many raw foods than can be eaten together to form a complete meal as well if you don't have time to cook.

Some people have legitimate time crunches...I am not disagreeing with your choice as good foods don't take a lot of time.

However; choices are not always about being lazy.

if someone has a "legitimate time crunch" and they can't plan for it, then they are lazy in their planning.

Agreed. Pretending you don't have a choice in your nutrition because of time constraints is just making excuses for your laziness and choice to prioritize convenience.

nobody is busier or time crunched than I am in my busy season. it is nothing more than an excuse why they are fat.... and I would say it is them being lazy

I say we ban lazy people

Depends on the type of lazy. I will put in a ton of work to avoid things later. My laziness knows no bounds! I will toil for hours creating some Rube Goldberg machine so I don't have to leave the couch to take out the trash.

The average american man is now that big? That's crazy. Its disgusting.

How much is a gym membership in the states? What the hell do you have to eat to get that big?

Seems to me that they're doing everything wrong.

I cook 4 meals at once. Sure you might be tired from work but how lazy do you have to be to not allocate a few times a week to cook? If time is that scarce cook a weeks worth if food on a Sunday.

Very depressing, and it's only gonna get worse. It's all about daily habits and living an active lifestyle. This country is in trouble for sure.

Anyone pay attention to the length of lines in drive thru's? It's crazy. People would rather wait an extra 5-10 minutes and sit in their cars rather than get out and walk in.
