Just copy your install over from your desktop. I never actually installed WoW on my XPS laptop. Although, you may want to turn UAC off.

the install i have on my desktop (XP) was from the cd install disk. yes i checked the box and it does say the preferred OS is Vista.

whats UAC?

Go into more detail. What happens when you try to install WoW? Is there any kind of message? Does it lock up? Have you tried a different copy of the install file? For the record, I have never had problems installing anything on Vista including WoW, but IIRC I did have UAC turned off right from the beginning.

after disk 6 it says "Sorry install failed" then has a scroll box with a slew of errors saying it cant write to the directory.

Ah! Ok, this is what I recommend. First of all, you are one amongst many who have had disk issues and install files failing that originated from disks. Before tweaking anything else with your system, I recommend going to the official site and downloading a fresh copy of the installation files on to your vista machine. Try those out and see what happens.

Doesn't matter, you can copy WoW from PC to PC.

User Account Control. Turn it off in the Users section of the control panel.

It's been a while, but I think so. I forgot where though.What I cannot remember is whether or not I downloaded the trial and performed some procedure to make it realize I already paid for a retail copy or if I downloaded a retail copy directly. Run some searches in the help/support sections to try and find it. If you find nothing then run additional searches about installation issues.

You will be pleasantly surprised. The prices of the turn ins are going down thanks to some of the new dailies providing them as rewards. I recently checked out how much it would cost my GF's main to hit exalted with Aldor. She is 4000 into revered. I think it came to about 500-550 on my server. Your only real issue will be supply on the AH which isn't actually a true issue because there is a lot. However, unless you have patience to wait for resupplying to occur, you will end up purchasing turn ins at inflated prices in addition to the cheaper stuff.

I think they key to making a lot of gold is getting that epic flying mount. Sure, it costs you a ton of money but once you have it you have a much easier time making money. Of course I could be full of it since I don't actually have one. :p

Nah, the ability to fly around and grab things at a much higher rate of speed is to not be thought lightly of. I'm tempted to give money to get it for my warrior, but the problem is... my warrior plays with my priest and obviously my priest can't keep up with an epic flying mount on a normal flying mount. My accounts have around 8000g combined.

Gold's not horribly hard to get, but you get it trickling in. The secret to getting gold is not to spend it! I see so many people complaining that they have no gold and I look at what they do. They lend out tons of money... nice that you help others get your flying mount, but average payback period is insanely long... just kiss that money goodbye! They buy worthless blue gear... sorry, but 100g is a waste of money on some blue that you'll probably just end up replacing anyway... especially if you're not even 70 yet!! Do not be one of those people that buys level 60 blues when you can just run the lower level TBC instances for gear.

Another secret is... don't be nice! People will dick you over in WoW like it's their business and don't think it will "give you street cred" when you're nice to someone, because more than not, it won't. People will love to not tip you for wasting a bunch of your time, won't pay for conjured items, etc. Like the other day, I waited 15-20 minutes for this guy to bring me mats for the Greater Arcane Protection Potion. He only brought enough for 19 of them so I gave him one that I had in the bank. The son of a bitch didn't even tip me when I gave him a potion! He made me wait that damn long and for what... "thx!" That son of a motherless orc, I was pissed!

There's also a situation when I was out farming motes of mana and a rogue asks me for food. See, there's a natural issue with doing this. I wanted one primal mana so I could make a primal might and /pray that I would get a fucking transmute proc ( which I didn't, so fuck you Blizzard... 12 transmutes and ONLY one 2x proc? ) and helping this rogue out by giving them food is only allowing them to farm more, which in turn hurts me! Not only that, but I'm assisting the rogue in making more gold per hour, which means they should share the wealth a bit. But nope, no fucking tip. Stingy sons of bitches.

what dailies did you do to make that much gold? Im doing the BG's to get the marks for my epic mount and i always pickup the arathi basin daily quest. i just cant bring myself to blow all my gold for a epic when i finally go over 500g. so im grinding in the BG's its much more interesting, i tried the winterspring grind for the winterspring saber but screw that, i did about 20 runs and had enough of that.

Probably the new Shattered Sun Offensive dailies. Although, I don't know how he can stand to do them all. I only do the 4 in Quel'Danis, the one in Nagrand and the one in Netherstorm. I might start doing in the one in Blade's Edge though. The one where you have to get stuff from gathering professions is absolutely horrible in how long it takes and the stuff in Hellfire can be a pain in the ass. The blowing up the teleporter one isn't hard, but the Blood for Blood quest can be just bad when it comes to the spawn camping (they're elites so they have long respawn times).

totally agree with what you said. i never give out money nor have i bought blue stuff at AH. the only thing i have bought at AH is a kick ass shadow wand that was far better than what i had...

also the only time i give money is at our guild bank. If there are items in there that i need like a crap load of netherweave ill take it and throw in some gold in the guild bank. or if i have some stuff i dont need but some lower levels do ill trade it in the guild bank. in fact its the guild rules, if you take something out of the gulild bank you should put something back like money or items you dont need but somebody else may.

if those items aren't used for a while the guild master will AH/vendor them and put the proceeds back in the guild bank. we were able get our third tab by doing this and almost have enough for our 4th.

With exception of collecting the nether residue, all of the new SSO dailies are insanely easy and net a lot of gold. In addition, various dailies for netherwing, Ogrila, and Skyguard are also quick and profitable. For example, bombing the Kaliri eggs in Skettis will take you 5 min tops and that is during peak hours. That's 12g right there. There is also the cooking daily which is almost 8g and if you pick the crate of meat as your reward everytime you will gain more than enough supply of raw food that completes future cooking dailies for you with exception of the mana berry quest. If you need the kaliri wing, you can grab it while you are bombing those eggs.

In all honesty, I expect to be able to farm at leat 200g in an hour or less once all of the SSO dailies are unlocked.

Eh...while you are not making as much gold as you could if people tipped more, I really do not believe you are losing anything except a little time which I realize could be translated into gold but that is not the point. I would say that contributing to the selfish and unfriendly atmosphere by doing what you are suggesting is not worth it. Doing that makes the game much less fun for everyone. Fun is the most important part of this game. Don't contribute to making it worse for others just because you have certain expectations that are not getting fulfilled. I can guarantee you that if everyone took that greedy point of view then the tips would become even worse than they are now. I like gold just as much as the next guy but it is really nothing in comparison to how valuable a fun and friendly atmosphere is in this game.

EDIT

I should also point out that I do not support cheap tippers. It's just that certain priorities need to be considered when it comes to this game. There is nothing anyone can do to change the minds of those who already choose not to tip well. We just have to deal with it and move on.

I mentioned that I was trying to go to bed, hence I wanted to log off and didn't expect the guy to take 20 minutes just to get his main to me!

<edit>It's not like he had to fly or anything... he was a mage... could easily port to get mats and port to get back to me in the worst case scenario</edit>

It ain't about the gold, it's about wasting my time. I'm in this game for myself at this point. I've been fucked over by too many greedy bastards that have no qualms with using me like a piece of pixelized meat! Maybe you'd be tired too if you've been playing for around 3.5 years =\.

How is the person a cheap tipper when they're not even tipping at all! They're just being stingy bastards.

You see, I prefer reciprocation. If someone's nice to me, I'm nice to them. When I'm nice to someone and they spit in my face, I'm not exactly put in the best of moods. Unfortunately for me, I don't do well in social situations in WoW anymore because of my concepts of "Do Unto Others" because people have no problem with screwing you over since "it's just a game."

I don't even know why I keep playing when all I do is end up getting so angry at the douche bags I run into.

As long as you continue to give strangers the benefit of the doubt instead of refusing to start off by being nice and helpful then all is well. That is pretty much the only thing I was trying to support when I made that post. Beyond that, I feel your pain.

Oh, I'm always nice and never ask for tips. I'm the type of person that on a date, prefers if the woman offers to pay at least something (if it's applicable, there can of course be reasons why I wouldn't care if they don't) but I don't mind if I pay it all. It's the thought that counts for me. The same thing translates into the game. Like when I ask if anyone needs to do a quest and someone says, "Oh no, I did that already, but I could help?" I usually decline help requests unless I'm really, really desperate and I think they could make it.

What really got to me the one time was when I asked someone if they could help me with the Paladin quest in Scholomance (and only the quest part, I was planning on clearing by myself). She told me no that it had nothing in it for her =\. Yet I've been asked to heal instances before because a healer was needed and I went! I don't really need anything out of the TK instances other than some rep, which is more of a side mission for me at this point. I ended up talking to them and they said that I never run them through anything, so they didn't want to go... (not to mention I've never been asked to).

Things like that really get to me =\. It's especially bad when a guild I was in for less than week offered to help with things like that and I've known the person that refused me since I switched servers almost a year ago!

Selfless behavior is something which is lacking in most aspects of life unfortunately. It really is a shame. :(

Both WoW and the world will become a much better place the sooner people realize that if you are the type who tends to habitually do favors for strangers then you will also become one of those people who have favors done for them for reasons that don't seem to make a lot of sense but it happens anyways.

Ok, I have searched far and wide and I can't find what I am looking for so I am going to try and describe it here and see what you guys can come up with.

I want a simple bullet point list or chart showing each phase of SSO world event and what it unlocks. No detailed explanations or fluff. Just a list with all of the quick facts like quests, vendors, building names, locations, and maybe a few miscellaneous details for unusual stuff such as how certain quests have their names changed once a phase is completed. Bonus points if the list is composed of links to the associated wowhead page for quests and vendors.

So far from what I can tell, all of this info is somewhere on the internet but it is scattered throughout various sites. Nothing I have seen keeps it simple and is all on one page. The closest thing which comes to what I want is the guide on Curse. However, it does not divide the information on a phase by phase basis so I do not know what is being unlocked and when.

So, who is up for this one? If you got a link that is great. If you got the time and patience to compose a post here with this kind of break down of info then that would be amazing too.

The Shattered Sun Offensive storyline is unique in WoW as far as gameplay is concerned, as most quests are added or removed based on the completion of server-wide objectives. These objectives typically flow in the form of "phases," with a total of four main phase objectives (focused around the reclamation of major locations on the Isle) and four creation-oriented objectives (focused around collecting resources in order to create new, beneficial additions to the Isle). As servers complete objectives, new NPCs and quests will become available progressively leading towards full reclamation of the Isle. All quests are available at neutral reputation with the Shattered Sun Offensive, and while most quests take place solely on the Isle, a few involve activities elsewhere in Outland.

All quests marked with a star (*) are temporary daily quests. These quests will only be active during their respective phases and prior to certain conditions being met. Once the intended objective percentage reaches 100% have been completed, they will be replaced with permanent equivalents - identical to their preceedings, but available forever! A summary of all permanent daily quests that will be available once the Isle is completely reclaimed can be found at the bottom of this guide.

Phase 1
Phase 1 has players recover the Sun's Reach Sanctum, the first of three locations that must be reclaimed.
There are two daily quests that will count toward securing this objective. Players can speak with Captain Theris Dawnhearth to remain updated on the current progress percentage. The two available daily quests are:

* Erratic Behavior (Rewards 9 gold 10 silver, +150 Reputation) *
* The Sanctum Wards (Rewards 9 gold 10 silver, +150 Reputation) *

When 100% progress has been reached, the following will happen:

There are two daily quests that will count toward securing this objective. Players can speak with either questgiver to remain updated on the current progress percentage. The two new available daily quests are:

When this objective has been completed, Phase 3 will begin. The Sunwell Portal can be activated prior or afterwards, as it does not directly affect the progression through the phases.

The previous two objective-oriented daily quests will now be defunct, and will be replaced with two new daily quests in Phase 3.

Activating the Sunwell Portal
Phase 2 also has players activate the Sunwell Portal. Completion of this objective does not assist in advancing progress towards Phase 3 but rather focuses on transportation to and from the Isle. Players can complete a daily quest towards this goal, which will be replaced once it has been met. Tradesman Portanuus will ask that players travel to Shattrath to assist Exarch Nasuun in the process of creating a portal between Shattrath and the Isle of Quel'Danas.

* Report to Nasuun - Rewards 75 silver at 70, +10 Reputation *
o Intercepting the Mana Cells - Rewards 9 gold 10 silver, +250 Reputation *

When 100% progress has been reached, the following will happen:

Also, a new quest will be available:

Although the Darnarian's Scroll of Teleportation is consumed with a single use, it is rewarded from a permanent daily quest, so you can obtain one easy method of returning to Shattrath per day.

Phase 3
Phase 3 has players recover the Sun's Reach Harbor, the third and final location that must be reclaimed.
There are two daily quests that will count toward securing this objective. Players can speak with either questgiver to remain updated on the current progress percentage. The two new available daily quests are:

* Intercept the Reinforcements - Rewards 11 gold 99 silver, +250 Reputation *
* Taking the Harbor - Rewards 11 gold 99 silver, +250 Reputation *

The replacements for the now-defunct Phase 2 quests become available. These quests will not count towards the phase objective, but still award money and reputation.

* The Battle Must Go On - Rewards 10 gold 10 silver, +250 Reputation
* The Air Strikes Must Continue - Rewards 9 gold 10 silver, +150 Reputation

When 100% progress has been reached, the following will happen:

7. Seraphina Bloodheart <Stable Master> and her pet, Sentinel, spawn
8. Sereth Duskbringer <Poison Supplies> spawns

When this objective has been completed, Phase 4 will begin. The anvil and forge can be rebuilt prior or afterwards, as it does not directly affect the progression through the phases.

The previous two objective-oriented daily quests will now be defunct, and will be replaced with two new daily quests in Phase 4.

Rebuilding the Anvil and Forge
Phase 3 also has players rebuild the anvil and forge at the armory.
There are two daily quests that will count toward securing this objective. Players can speak with Smith Hauthaa to remain updated on the current progress percentage. The two new available daily quests are:

* Making Ready - Rewards 11 gold 99 silver, +150 Reputation *

Once "Making Ready" has been completed enough times, the following quests replace it:

* Ata'mal Armaments - Rewards 18 gold 28 silver, +350 Reputation
* Don't Stop Now.... - Rewards 11 gold 99 silver, +250 Reputation

When 100% progress has been reached, the following will happen:

1. Smith Hauthaa will now sell items in exchange for Badges of Justice

Phase 4
Phase 4 is the last phase to be completed before successfully reclaiming Sun's Reach. It focuses on two separate objectives that must both be completed in order for the Isle to be completely reclaimed.

The replacements for the now-defunct Phase 3 quests will be available:

* Keeping the Enemy at Bay - Rewards 7 gold 59 silver, +250 Reputation

* Open for Business - Rewards 11 gold 99 silver, Bloodberry Elixir, +250 Reputation

Building the Monument to the Fallen
Additionally, players are asked to help fund a memorial for the fallen.

* A Charitable Donation - Rewards +150 Reputation *
* A Magnanimous Benefactor - Rewards +500 Reputation, requires Exalted with Shattered Sun Offensive
This quest, rather than awarding gold, requires 1000g, and rewards players willing to make the donation with a special title: <player> of the Shattered Sun!

Once the Monument to the Fallen has been constructed, the following quest replaces "A Charitable Donation":

* Your Continued Support - Rewards +150 Reputation

Once all objectives on the Isle of Quel'Danas have been completed, the naaru K'iru spawns and buffs players zone-wide and inside the Magisters' Terrace with K'iru's Song of Victory, increasing Stamina by 79 and Intellect by 40. This buff does not stack with Power Word: Fortitude or Arcane Intellect.

This concludes the effort to reclaim Sun Reach for the Shattered Sun Offensive. This area will now serve as a permanent quest hub, offering many daily quests, vendors and other resources for players. The permanent daily quests, including those not directly related to the reclamation, are detailed below.
