At what Rep??

all reps, the quality and # of gems in the bag differs depending on rep, there might be some sort of quest to get access to this, i think there is but i did it like almost 2 years ago so i may be wrong

I have no idea. I did the scanning quest yesterday then flew to the blades to finish the cooking and saw a yellow ! Below me.

I vaguely remembered talk of it once I did it, but this is the first time I actually hit the guy up. :|

Anyone know a good dps meter add on?

I did kara again last night to finish the clear, we did: Nightbane, Prince, Chess Event... kept wiping on Netherspite though since we needed another tank

I got Malacheezen even though I didn't need it

So, anyone do anything with these olympic items? I got the tabard after the first day and a couple days after the gold medal. Is there anything else and what does the metal do? ( I haven't taken it out of the mail yet)

Yeah I use SW Stats.

Did Heroic Shattered Halls for the first time last night. Got to the end before 55 minutes so the first person wasn't executed... without a pally tank :Q!! Although I kinda didn't have the Mercy quest so I'd never have to go back :(.

And it sucks being threat capped so much on my mage =\. I just sit there half the time 'cause wasting an invis on just about every fight = not worthwhile :p.

The tabard is just a tabard, the medal is a non combat pet.

Was just reading over the stuff from the last blizzcast (or whatever its called) at champs. A lot of profession changes talked about. Discoery is going universal and getting neutered. Several eng items are becoming enchant like items vice the actual worn thing. Tailors get a flying carpet. Armor and weapon smiths can add sockets. Enchanters can sell via AH. Etc...

What's the idea of a universal discovery mechanism? I mean, right now I'm not the biggest fan of discovery as I hate the idea that I just randomly learn this. What I hate more than this is opposing factions having different recipes for the same profession (Aldor vs Scryer).

Oh man, my priest is so going to make the turban and ride around on his flying carpet. If I could only find me a monkey and name him Abu!

The socketing stuff doesn't seem to be limited to a specific type of smithing as we've seen adding a socket to bracers and gloves so far (which are both armor). I don't think you can add a socket to weapons unless Blizzard changes their system (which is possible), because the max number of sockets used currently is 3... and there are quite a few weapons with 3 sockets available ( http://www.wowhead.com/?items=...ter=cr=100;crs=3;crv=3 ) , but there are no bracers ( http://www.wowhead.com/?items=...l=9;cr=100;crs=3;crv=3 ) with 3 sockets. There are however one pair of gloves with 3 sockets ( http://www.wowhead.com/?items=...=10;cr=100;crs=3;crv=3 ) so I'm not sure how this will work.

Enchanters can only sell and trade enchants now via Inscription. Inscriptors must create parchment in which the enchanter will enchant said parchment. Enchanting the parchment turns it into an item that will then be able to apply the enchant.

My Death Knight will end up being my Inscriptor and he'll just use the heck out of my herb banks to level it like a mofo.

Oh and still haven't been able to buy my Blizzcon ticket yet :(.

Tickets were on sale for 15 minutes it seems and I missed out. Now I'm really fucking pissed that I spent all yesterday (including the minute they went on sale) trying to get them and get fucked over because they can't roll out a sales service that can handle the obvious load.

Well, looks like I have a 5 day vacation in Anaheim doing nothing.

Drysc: With Burning Crusade we saw some fairly dramatic changes as opposed to the original game. Some new trade good synergies, some differences in how the professions were used for filling out your item slots. How is that design philosophy going as we move into Lich King, and what did we learn from that?
Jon LeCraft: We?re definitely happy with how people are excited about tradeskills they weren?t before. They definitely had some big improvements, things like blacksmithing, and tailoring, and leatherworking, all of a sudden were really exciting. There are some issues with that, the whole best in slot, y?know ?Oh, hey I have an awesome mace? but then you know, the guy goes raiding and replaces it. So, in addition to that we?re moving toward some perks, so to say? like, I?ll give you an example that we?re thinking about doing, is that Blacksmiths would be able to add sockets to a weapon, or Armorsmiths would be able to add a metasocket to armor. So, that kind of thing.

Oh and still haven't been able to buy my Blizzcon ticket yet :(.

The very limited reading I did about that was that you could still phone order.

They're all sold out now... I went to buy it at 8 but I was met with yet more and more complications. I'm curious if Xavier got his since he also made reservations early. If I cancel my reservations, I only get about $400 back (out of around $850) (Exact text being, "If you cancel prior to Wed, Oct 8, 2008, you will be refunded your purchase price, minus any flight or hotel cancel fees totaling $477.00."). With that kind of huge loss, I might just go anyway, but my brother's going to bail since he also couldn't get tickets and I'm going to be all alones :(.

Sigh, I knew I shouldn't have bought reservations early... I fucking foretold that this shit would happen. Only justified it because it took 3 days to sell out last year... didn't think a mount would meant that much (which after seeing some sell mounts for 10,000g... I shoulda been smurter) .

But you know what the real kicker is? If you get it (the PPV highlights) via DirecTV, you can get a fucking mount for $45 (including the PPV stuff)!

Hit CTRL+R :p. I replaced my 8800GTX with a HD 4870... so much better overall. Except I was smart and turned my fan around in my case (the side fan was pushing air out) and now it's noisy as a mother fucker.

Todays blue beta stuff, mostly yalking about tanking which it seems has become a rather heated subject in part due to warriors complaining about the other classes being tweaked to improve their tank status.

Tanking in Wrath of the Lich King

Quote from: Ghostcrawler (Source)
Threads have popped up in several class forums that seem to be converging on a few of the same issues. So rather than cross-posting a lot, I thought I would start a new thread.

Tanking Design
[*]Our goal in Lich King is for all 4 tanking classes to be viable.
[*]We would like for tanking to be a little more fun. I'm going to leave this vague on purpose, but it is definitely a concern.
[*]In 5-player instances, most warriors, druids, paladins and death knights should be effective tanks. The healing specs may have a harder time than the dps specs. Arms wariors, Fury warriors, Ret paladins, Ferals and most DKs should do fine.
[*]In 5-player heroics, the expectation is that the tank has a heavy investment in tanking talents and appropriate gear. Arms warriors might have trouble tanking a heroic unless they overgear the instance.
[*]For raids, we want all 4 tank classes to be viable. If your group has e.g. a Prot paladin and Feral druid as main tanks with appropriate gear and reasonable skill, you should be good to go.
[*]This is a shift in philosophy for us. Previously, we sometimes tried to steer Ferals as being better off tanks than main tanks. We also expected specific classes to appear in the raid. Our new assumption is that you might have any of the 4 tanking classes as a tank. We are trying to achieve as much parity as we can among the 4 tanks without making them too similar. If nearly all guilds want the same class as their MT, we've failed.
[*]This is a big one: the game isn't finished. We aren't spending too much effort yet to make sure mitigation, threat and tools are similar across the 4 classes at level 80 in blue or purple gear. Likewise, your talent trees and core abilities aren't finished. Tanking (and PvP) need to have a lot of other pieces of the game in place before we can really get the numbers right. It's fine (useful even) to point out when you feel a particular ability, talent, class or build is too good or not good enough. But please don't infer the work in progress as a reflection of our intent. If we end up changing our minds or if things don't work out, it will be posted here.
[*]There are a lot of changes in Lich King that change tanking and raiding in general. I won't list them all out here, but keep in mind things like itemization changes, widespread raid buffs, consumables, UI changes, etc. Just keep them in mind. We're not in Tempest Keep anymore.
[/list]

We would still like to have tanking "flavors" as you put it, but I want to be a little careful when I say that because some people have taken that to mean that their class won't be good enough to tank the content they want.
If druids had gigantic health pools but lower mitigation and avoidance than a warrior, that would be tanking flavor. It would mean you heal the bears a little different -- they might drain more mana, but the damage would be more predictable. In really long fights, the warrior might have an advantage. In a fight where a boss hit quickly for less damage per hit, the warrior might have an advantage. In fights with periods of really big damage, the druid might have an advantage. In magic fights where armor was less of a factor, the druid might have an advantage. This is just an example. Our overriding concern is making sure the tanks have the tools, threat and mitigation they need to tank. A secondary concern is making sure they don't feel too similar.

Druid (Skills List / Talent Calc. (8770))
Feral concerns in WotLK
We're not done with Ferals. The builds you get are often a week or more behind ours, and that assumes that a designer actually went in and made changes. It's impossible for us to balance the threat and mitigation of the 4 tanking classes until we can take a look at the level 80 characters, wearing raid-level gear, and fighting a raid-level encounter. None of that content is done yet.
I said above that I think the old design of "You can't ever be a MT, but you get to be a terrific OT" feels dated. But in order to be a MT as good as a paladin or warrior, you can't also dps as well as a Fury warrior with the same spec. I don't think anyone is asking for that, but realistically the only way to address is it with talents. (And before someone asks, if you like the OT role, you can still do that too.)
I'm fine bouncing between druid, warrior, paladin and death knight forums posting "You will be able to MT Ulduar without gimping your raid" every few days if that's what it takes. (Source)
Those statements aren't mutually exclusive. A druid can be a better MT on some fights and a warrior a better MT on some fights without the fight being impossible for the other class. I can't promise that each raid will have an equal number of fights that benefits one tank over the other, and ultimately it shouldn't really matter. If your guild has a bear and prot paladin as your 2 MTs for LK raiding, you are good to go. At no point will you stop and say, "Gee if we only had a warrior MT, we would have beaten that boss by now."
The comments on "niche" are more to address concerns that the 4 classes have to be carbon copies of each other. Warriors, like other tank classes, are worried that with all of the changes, their role will somehow be eliminated. I am trying to reassure you all that that is not the case. I think we can have say druids have larger stamina pools and warriors have more mitigation without making one of them the tank that 90% of raids run with. (Source)
Warrior (Skills List / Talent Calc. (8770))
Raid Wide Battle Shout
The plan is for for Battle Shot to go raid wide. A lot of buffs will be going raid wide. (Source)
Protection Spec and DPS
We think we can make the Prot tree more fun. Without talents like Defiance, there are already a few less mandatory talents, and we think we can make even more interesting choices. We definitely can improve Prot dps, so that it doesn't feel so painful to go do dailies or run a 5-man in a dps role. (Source)
Death Knight (Skills List / Talent Calc. (8770))Scourge Strike / Plague StrikeAt the moment, the only difference between Plague Strike and Scourge Strike is the damage. Both can remove hots. Scourge Strike's damage appears lower than it is because it hits for Shadow damage and thus ignores armor. (Source)
Talent spec as a tanking Death Knight
In any case, I have tried to say on a few occasions that the goal is NOT that a DK can be awesome at dps and tanking with any spec. The goal is that not every DK tank needs to use the same tree. To be a MT, a death knight will have to pick up tanking talents -- you probably need 16-20, and possibly even more. (Source)
PvP Snare Ability
As far as a PvP- snare ability goes, we are going to try something like removing the cooldown and root from Chains of Ice. It will drop the target's movement to zero, and the target will regain 5% movement speed per sec for 20 sec (10 in PvP). It's a physical debuff that cannot be dispelled and isn't subject to diminishing returns. Let us know how it goes. If it's too spammy now, we can put a cooldown back on it. (Source)

Essentially Blizzard is removing stuff like Crushing Blows to make it so Druids are more desirable as tanks since there was no way a Druid could become uncrushable without a shield.

So I was doing a kara badge run last night and I think I'm becoming unlucky in this regard. I've never had a badge run actually get far at all. We wiped way too many times and never on bosses... always on stupid shit like someone pulling an extra group of horses before Attumen. Not to mention the main tank wasn't showing up on Omen at all and I'm worried that I'm going to pass him in threat the entire time. The other Paladin tank was fairly new to tanking Karazhan and I could pass her on threat with a single cast. But she had a hot voice, so it's okay :p.

Then wiping and wiping on Aran... he's not even fucking hard. We would've actually beat him the first time if he didn't constantly go after me or if the one warlock didn't die in the beginning from AM spam (and no heals). Constantly going after me put him really close to me and what made it worse was that there was a Blizzard running around so I couldn't easily just go elsewhere. Sigh, what a cluster fuck... that combined with some of the annoying players that just wouldn't shut the fuck up.

Oh and is it a bad thing when a resto druid is beat out in healing by a shadow priest? :p

They didn't say exactly how it works, but you order the PPV and you get a code for the mount. I assume it will come on the bill that the PPV is billed on. So give your friend like $50-60 (even though it's only $40... incentive is nice) and ask him to give you the code when it comes.

As listed on the Blizzcon website:

DIRECTV Package Includes:

* Over 16 hours of crystal-clear high-definition coverage
* Exclusive interviews and commentary
* Main stage presentations including opening ceremony
* Select panels featuring Blizzard Entertainment developers
* Tournament coverage and team highlights
* BlizzCon 2008 World of Warcraft in-game polar bear mount with mounted, flag-waving murloc

Also if you were planning on getting DTV anyway...

In the weeks ahead, DIRECTV will run a special promotion -- through the BlizzCon website only -- offering the pay per view event free to new DIRECTV subscribers who sign up for DIRECTV at that time. Please note that this promotion will only be available to new DIRECTV subscribers who sign up for DIRECTV via a link that will be posted on this page when the promotion goes live
