holy shit anyone wanna start playing wow?

Blizzard just launched their new recruit a friend program ! What's really new about it ? Simple, you can now get a Zhevra Mount by recruiting friends !

For every person you refer who upgrades to a retail version of WoW and purchases two months of game time, you will get a free mount for one of your character !
Characters on both accounts can summon each other once per hour.
While adventuring with your linked friend/family member, you will each gain triple experience and honor.
For every two levels the new player earns, the new player can grant one free level-up to a lower-level character played by the veteran player.

As I warned you (particularly now that you can totally skip low/mid level instances without impact) leveling up can be very fun and addictive.

Oh no, they brought back my character!

*Slashes wrists*

So I got into WoW around late 2005. I played it a lot for about a year, with considerable mal effects on my social life and grad. school grades. By late 2006, I was making some attempt to quit. I'd stop playing for a month, but invariably I'd come back. I'd uninstall it, and I'd come back.

Finally in March/April 2007 - with steely resolve - I deleted my level 67 Warlock, level 50 Shaman, and other miscellaneous characters. That was the only way I could do it, because I knew I could never bring myself to sell my account.

I managed to stay away from WoW. But then recently I bought a Mac. For some reason as a kid, I remembered seeing tons of Mac games at Best Buy and other places. But these days there's hardly any, even though Mac is seemingly more popular than ever. Anyway, according to Amazon the best selling game for Mac is Diablo 2. I go to Best Buy, and about the only thing I can find that will (also) run on a Mac is Diablo 2. So I pony up money for the game, even though I've seen and done it 8 years ago, and long since lost my CD's... I just really want something to test the gaming capabilities of my Mac.

With Diablo 2 though, comes a trial DVD for WoW. I can't believe I installed it, but I was so tempted to just dip my foot back into the World of Warcraft. So I make some goofy NELF warrior and mess around in the nooby zone, quickly getting bored my level 2. I see some level 60+ zoom by. God damnit, that used to be me! Then in another moment of weakness, I petition the GM for "deleted character". That's it. That's all I did. I waited maybe a minute, before I knew I had to get out. So I quit WoW, delete my new newbie character at the same time. So I thought that was the end of my WoW saga. I delete the WoW shortcuts on my desktop, but I stay just shy of deleting the game because I'm honestly not sure how uninstalls happen on Macs.

I check my email today, and there's a note from Blizzard. They've restored my level 67 Warlock!!!!!!one!!1! Without me even telling them the name! With the character having been dead for over a year! Without me even waiting around for the GM! Of course I immediately log back in, and I see my Warlock there. I log in and summon my Dreadsteed mount.

God, this is so painful! I'm working 80 hour weeks now. I can't be adventuring in the WoW. But I can't kill my beloved Warlock twice either. :(

Raid Composition in WotLK
Class design isn't done. We are shooting for more parity. Nobody should get a raid spot because their one talent brings a huge dps (or mana or healing or health) benefit to the raid that no other spec can provide. (Source)

I guarantee that you will be seeing a Shaman in every raid no questions asked. With the changes to Windfury (+16% melee haste), Grace of Air (removed), Strength of Earth (now has Grace of Air's +agility as well as original +strength), Flametongue (+spell damage) and Wrath of Air (+spell haste)... it'd be simply silly to ignore the bonuses that a Shaman brings (also raid-wide totems and untalented 30 yards to all friendly buff totems). Not to mention, an Enhancement Shaman should be doing significantly more DPS in WotLK with the introduction of even more "easy casting" (insta-cast spells and auto-proc'ing lightning shield). This isn't even including the already awesome Heroism/Bloodlust ability.

In other words, I think Shamans are even more mainstay now than they were before.

Also, now that shamans have Hex, they may actually be able to get into a group, although it is a bit more like a Rogue's Sap where you can't just reapply it akin to a Mage using Polymorph (as Hex lasts for 30 seconds and has a 45 second cooldown). However, Stoneclaw totem is being buffed HP-wise, so I'm unsure whether or not you could simply use Stoneclaw to help mitigate that 10 seconds or simply have the mob be high in the kill order.

Our largest problem that I see still exists... we have no real way of dumping aggro other than dying and using Resurrection. Spirit Weapons only affects melee attacks, so adding in even more spell damage isn't going to help.

No problem at all. It's always nice to start the game with some gold...

Anyone planning on going to Blizzcon 2008? Tickets go on sale next Monday and it will be October 10 and 11. I'm thinking about it as the tickets are $100 and it looks like airfare will be about $350-400. I'm really tempted to go as I'm too logical to go on vacations. People say they may create memories, but $500+ can be spent on computer parts that I'll use to play the game for over a year rather than give me a nice couple days. So I usually never go because I can just spend the money on things that are "more long lasting" Although now I kinda wish I went last year so I could play WotLK :( :( :(.

That would certainly be easier for me as well since NYC is only 3 hours away (by car or bus), but I wouldn't mind going out to the west coast... I mean hell... furthest west I've been is Buffalo .

I will be attending again this year. I already booked the airfare and will probably book the hotel today. The experience is well worth the money.

Roomie! :p

I think I'll give it a shot.... I've also never been to a Disney whatever, so since to my knowledge, Disney Land is literally right across the street... it'd be kinda stupid of me to not check it out so I can at least say I've been there.

Any advice on the best hotel to shoot for?

Oh and since I watched the videos posted in that one ATOT thread ( http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=38&threadid=2214388 ) I wonder if the insulting dog will go to Blizzcon :D.

Syracuse to LAX is about $320 round-trip leaving on Wednesday or Thursday and coming back on Monday (I think it'll go up about $40 if you choose to come back on Sunday).
