GPU and CPU usage seems wierd to me

my E8500 @ 4.1 is working at around 40-60% usage for both cores while my stock 4870 512 is having schizophrenic GPU usage with a frantic 30-100% usage. vid mem usage is 370MB at 16*10, 1x AA, 16x AF, high settings, and HBAO off (whoop dee doo certain shadows change to a difference shade of black). framerate hovers around 35-40 FPS which is good enough.

too bad I still can't get into these style of these multiplayer FPSes. absolutely no idea how to snipe with the bullet physics atm. :(

I have a G15. Yes the game displays your information, and even your ping in numbers =)

Something I noticed, when your on the Russian side controlling the UAV, the radio chatter is in English.

After everything, the game is much smoother now.

1900x1200, all high, 8xAA, 16xAF, HBAO off

Just got done playing my longest games so far, in total about 1 1/2 hrs (not that long really), but damn it's more fun once you get used to it. Runs pretty well on my system but I need to turn down the bloom quite a bit in that snow map in the PC beta. I think I stayed alive for at least 15 minutes that last game (amazing for me) and actually got some kills.

But the games I've played tonight, it showed my best weapon which had zero kills and zero shots; I didn't earn any XP points. Anyone know what's up with that? Definitely liking this game the more I play though.

I have been playing on the same server mostly, since day 1, as it had no lag issues at all for me. Tonight, I went to a different server because a clan I know said they were playing there. On that server, I did not have any of my unlocks, and stats were all zero at the end of the round.
I quit the game, then decided to go back to my "home" server to see if my unlocks showed there. They did.
I can't be sure if the issue was corrected by my logging back in to EA, or if they were with the server. I suspect the server.

If you give me a complete list of data fields listed on the display, I will add it to the FAQ. TIA?

There are three screens.

Screen 1:
Total Score (Points from all of your games)
Squad Score (above)
World Rank
Time Elapsed playing
Kills (of match)
Deaths (above)
Ratio (above)

Screen 2:
Server
Map
Ping
Number of Players

Screen 3:
Next Unlocks (Lists all of the classes, including vehicles, and tells you your points until your next unlock)

Added to the FAQ:

  • On the scoreboard in BFBC2, sometimes I see little white boxes with numbers next to players names. What does this mean? That number is the players Battlefield Veteran rank. It denotes the total number of Battlefield games the player has owned and played, and registered on the Battlefield Veterans web site.**
  • What benefits will Battlefield Veterans get when purchasing BFBC2? Certain class gadgets, such as the defibrilator (for Support), ammo crate (for Assault) normally need to be unlocked as you play. These will be unlocked from the start for Battlefield veterans. DICE's reasoning for making them unlocks for rookies is that it gives them a chance to educate the rookie on the purpose and usefullness of these class unlocks. Veterans should already be aware of this. Source.
  • The Logitech G-Series keyboards have a display that is often used by games to display useful info while in game. What can I expect to see displayed while playing BFBC2? There are three screens of info. Source
    Screen 1:
    • Total Score (Points from all of your games)
    • Squad Score (above)
    • World Rank

Video of stuff that needs addressed by DICE: Battlefield Bad Company 2: Glitches, bugs, exploits, and amazing maneuvers

==================================================

Progress on fixes for retail: Source.

Here we list some of the bugs which have been reported in the Closed Beta, with confirmed info from programmer, Mikael Kalms.

How is DICE working on the game?
Fixes are made directly in the retail game. Then, depending on how much time and effort it takes, we also lift the fixes into the Closed Beta. When we have a new good build of the Closed Beta, we will release a new client.

The focus for most of the team right now is stability, not game balancing. Therefore the list below contains mainly reported stability issues.

Flashing water and terrain on Crossfire
Fixed in retail game.

Particle shadows disabled on SLI + DirectX9
They used to cause a huge performance drop. Fixed in retail game.

DirectX9 crashes
We have improved stability some in the retail game, particularly when "losing" the graphics device due to alt-tab

WinXP 32 / WinXP 64 compatibility
We have done a few crash fixes, although we have no data specifically on XP64 yet.

Updater fails downloading patch and gives a nonsensical error message about "unable to download patch, check your internet connection"
Fixed in the retail game. The problem is both in the game's installer and in the updater.
Closed Beta workaround: launch the Updater as Administrator.

Some or all of WASD keys stop working
If you have a joystick connected, and it is not perfectly calibrated, then it will signal tiny movements in some direction. These tiny movements overrule the WASD keys. We are aware of the problem.
Closed Beta workaround: Disconnect your joystick

Crash during level load on ATI x1900 cards
The game requires driver version 9.12 or later to function. 9.11 crashes hard inside the driver. Unfortunately there are no new enough drivers available for the X1900 cards.
Closed Beta workaround: Rename BFBC2Game.exe to BF2.exe, and launch BF2.exe directly.

Sometimes you keep moving even after you have released a key
Noted. We have reproduced it at the DICE office too.
As a side note: this never happened to a single developer during the past 6 months' worth of testing. Strange.

"Connection to server has been lost"
This one is tricky. We have no solution yet.

Some sounds are played in the wrong speaker
Audio team are investigating.

Crackups in sound
No data yet.

Weapon balancing and tuning
When we created the first Closed Beta, we picked the most stable build we had. (Well, you have all seen how well that build fared when it faced the real world...) We had to choose either stability or new content -- and stability won. Due to this, all content in the Closed Beta was some weeks old already at launch.

Weapon balancing is on-going in the retail game, and we are following what's happening on the forums.

HBAO is very GPU hungry, resulting in low framerates on high-end machines
We are working on faster versions of the filter.
Closed Beta workaround: disable HBAO. Looks less pretty, runs better.

The game has high framerate on a machine, yet the input is very laggy
We have a fix in the works.

The game accepted my serial key, but then failed logging in to EA Online
Are you having any exotic characters in your password? One person who had the character ‘}’ in his password had that very problem.
Closed Beta workaround: Change your password (using www.ea.com) to a password that only contains the characters A-Z, a-z, 0-9. Then try logging in in the game again.

So, that is where we are at now.

We will try to keep this list updated every few days. Thanks for your feedback, everyone!

-kalms

I hope everyone is enjoying the BFBC2 PC Beta and Xbox 360 Demo! I know here at DICE there is much enjoying, but not without collecting a lot of great feedback from the PC Beta. Now with all this Multiplayer goodness we wanted to give some Singleplayer love for this post. So far feedback from the Press warrants this love and has been very positive making the team feel very proud of their work. We're also extremely excited for the first ever Battlefield PC title to contain a proper Singleplayer campaign! So without further rambling lower in this post is a collection of great write-ups on BFBC2 Singleplayer (and some Multiplayer) from our Press events over January, all are well worth a read or watch. :)

Anyone run into an issue where your kills for the round doens't seem to include vehicles? There was a round last night where I was in a tank for a good half the round. It showed the most kills by weapon as the tank with ~15-20 kills but my KDR is only 1 as in the kills/deaths screen above the Best Weapon shows 2 kills and 2 deaths

i hope they make helo flying harder than bf2, like it was w/ desert combat :), bf2 was a cakewalk in the helo - way to easy flying, same w/ vietnam - too easy.
Oh man, I've played BF 1942 and BF 2 and still cannot fly the helicopters. I dunno what I'm doing wrong; I just use the keyboard and mouse FWIW.

Just for shits and giggles I grabbed a helicopter last night and got off the ground a bit hovering, and then promptly rammed the thing forward into the ground and blew it up. I was trying to see if I could fly them in this game, but it looks like I still suck terribly at them. D: :awe:

Flying helis is pretty simple with the mouse/kb, that's what I use. Make sure to turn invert pilot off, if you're not used to it.

Also, regarding hte no points last night, I think all the servers were bugged, because every kill popped up with +50, but pressing TAB, I saw all 0's.

I had a great game last night in this. I earned 4000xp through the game and 6000 points from medals for over 10k points at the end lol. I really like how you get xp for everything, it really encourages people to help their teammates out.

hmm, I'm interested to see how the final version is going to run if this one is a couple months old already. Guess I've been pretty lucky to have such a smooth experience thus far.

My best game thus far has been about 12k points, with 19 or so badges. I'm finding I'm sliding back into my old BF2 habits from five or six years ago. My favorite moment thus far was when I blew a hole in the wall of the 'A' objective with my Gustav on the first point of the map, killing one guy and in the ensuing smoke and rubble, ran in, blasted two with my shotgun and stabbed a fourth in the head. It was one of the most, if not the most awesome videogame moment I've ever had.

I'm fairly optimistic that they can iron out the bugs before launch. Word has it that the Beta build is six weeks old and that the newer client they've got over at DICE plays much nicer with just about everyone's machine.

^^^

Oh you already mentioned that. I lose :(

From these updates that keep getting posted it looks like they're not going too try to hard to fix performance issues in the beta. Reminds me of those Mac/PC commercials... The full game runs better. Trust us. ;)

:awe: It took me a while to learn too. What I did was host my own game in Vietnam, password protected it so no one else could join and just kept trying and trying till I learned to fly. I don't know if you can host your own game in BC2 but it might be worth a shot

Yeah companies never seem to run real betas anymore. They wanted to release their most stable client instead of the newest so that they wouldn't get a ton of bad PR from whiny beta testers who think this is a demo that can't be changed. From what they've been saying it sounds like they won't even be using the release client in the beta at all, which is pretty damn stupid when you think about it. I'm fully expecting there to be some early problems with BC2 when it releases, but that's pretty much expected for most BF games (for me at least lol).

Well, I can confirm after last night that helicopter ramming still works! I took the blackhawk and proceeded to ram it into an opposing tank and hopped out just in time.

Oh yeah, and the jihad 4 wheeler works nice as well. Good ol' battlefield!

Well, you can disable bloom by editing the setting.ini file at My Documents > BFBC2Beta > settings.ini, set it to false.

Or, you can use this tool, it's a gui to edit the ini:

Just unzip it to the directory containing the ini file and run it.

============================================

I installed FRAPS to enable screenshots, and took a look at my FPS, and it was mostly between 20 & 30. So, I finally got a reason to overclock my e8400 from 3.0ghz to the "easy" 3.6! Into the BIOS, change two settings, voila, FPS is now between 50 & 60!. CPU temp is still in the 30's. I guess I can delay the upgrades for now...

or u can download it @ http://ohlawl.com/liseda.html

keep in mind this is a BETA...
