it's just that CPU core parking is on in windows 7.. if you turn it off there is no dif

NO, its not, been there done that. Core parking on/off made little to no difference on my rig. windows 8.1 made a noticeable difference in FPS and eliminated 99% of the pauses/hiccups I was seeing. I gained about 10% average FPS and a HEALTHY 30+% on my minimum FPS. Core parking on/off didn't even show a measurable FPS difference in win7 on my AMDx6 rig and still suffered pauses/hiccups.

Windows 7 was patched for AMD multi-core cpus, so the benefit of turning off core parking doesnt really help that much. Its more for Intel CPUs. That being said, moving to Windows 8.1 was a bigger improvement than just turning off core parking in Windows 7.

Just because something doesn't affect you (and therefor the fix doesn't apply) doesn't mean it doesn't work. I saw an immediate and measurable increase of 10-15% FPS.

Quadrouple negative, for the grammar nazis. *drops mic*

Anybody know if BF4 will run Commander mode on an older laptop (core2duo, 4GB ram, integrated intel graphics)? I have run the Commander role from an iPad but do not have a headset/mic setup for it, so was thinking of it on the laptop. I just don't want to d/l 25GB of data if somebody else has already tried it on a no frills core2duo laptop.

weird cause every review site I see says 7% difference tops, that tells me to never buy an AMD system ever.

New update, just downloaded. Tested the spot I was having frame rate problems on altai range going from 80+ fps to 27fps. Now after update I was at 94fps in that same place. I am going to go test a couple other problem areas now

Seems they may have lowered draw distance, at least that is what it looks like. If you saw the video with 120FOV and 70FOV where the item was popping in and out in 120fov and not 70fov till much much farther. Seems like we all get 120FOV draw distance. Don't quote me on that but it's a thought

New patch is up and running already, it's 1.23 GB. Hope DICE won't screw up anything big time.

Just getting the update, but can't play until tonight. Come on AMD!

The new update is Mantle:

http://www.techspot.com/news/55500-...le-new-driver-and-patches-available-soon.html

Interestingly, Mantle, like Win8.1, primarily improves CPU performance, not GPU performance.

Note that the Catalyst 14.1 drivers required to access Mantle are not yet available on AMD's site.

Intel/Nvidia user here. So this 1.23GB patch is just a waste of time and SSD space for me? :|

Im really starting to crave some new maps, but unfortunately the next DLC will not include any. GRRRR!

Starting to feel the urge to play something different for a change.

Im in a sour mood this morning, even coffee didnt help.

Actually, BF4 is the first game to truly take advantage of Win8 (or more specifically, 8.1). It's not a ground-breaking difference, but it's most definitely there, so if you're on the edge of playability, the $100 upgrade is a good investment. See link in sig for more info.

I don't think it's right to say BF4 was optimized for windows 8, more like it was crippled on Windows 7. I've never had a game with such FPS hiccups or that required disabling core parking. Who has even heard of core parking before BF4 lol.

There are some other tweaks included, but the bulk of the download is likely the Mantle code. Either way, you can't play without it, so just download and enjoy!

i7-3970x bottleneck 2 290x? Does that mean they did not code it properly for six core CPU? What about the 780ti (since it is faster)

Test case 3: High-end single-player with multiple GPUs
CPU: Intel Core i7-3970x Extreme, 12 logical cores @ 3.5 GHz
GPU: 2x AMD Radeon R9 290x 4 GB
Settings: 1080p ULTRA 4x MSAA
OS: Windows 8 64-bit
Level: South China Sea “Broken Flight Deck”
This single-player scene is heavy on both the CPU and GPU with lots of action going on. Test was done on the highest end Intel CPU on Windows 8, which is the fastest option before Mantle thanks to DirectX 11.1. Still this CPU is not fast enough to keep the 2 290x GPUs fed at 1080p on Ultra settings so we get a significant CPU performance bottleneck which results in major performance improvement when enabling Mantle.
Result: 13.24 ms/f -> = 8.38 ms/f = 58% faster

A friend invited me to play just a few minutes after my last post and after a couple of really good fun games my mood has improved. Im back on the BF4 bandwagon. :D

The MAA has been nerfed somewhat. It takes a bit more aiming to get active radar missiles to connect but its still devastating enough, especially on HC servers. I was making some flyboys rage so all is still good there. However, I may reconsider after I get in an attack helo and feel what its like on the other side of things.

I didnt really notice any nerfage in the scout helo's 25mm guns, I was still ripping through infantry and choppers as always.

Can you actually get into games now or is the stupid "Error connecting to EA servers" error still happening?

Been playing since day one, and Ive never experienced this.

I experience this everytime I try to get on. It eventually connects, though.

That being said, once I do connect, it's very stable for me. Crashes in-game are rare, so they have made progress.

A lot better than BF3. For months on end I couldn't play. The game would crash halfway through almost every map. That was finally fixed and I can play BF3 now, but BF4 has been a lot more stable for me.

I get this about 30% of the time I try to join a server. I do not have the new patch yet, but hopefully it fixes it.

Do you ever attempt to get into full, or close to full servers?

Yes, and one of three things will happen.

1 if its not already full it joins
2 if it is already full I go into the premium queue.
3 if myself and another join at roughly the same and they beat me in then I may get a disconnected error

I dont consider #3 a big deal because it doesnt happen very often, and if it does I simply join another server. If you absolutely have to get into that particular server then simply rejoin and get in queue.

EDIT-I could see this being an issue for someone not using an SSD, with the longer load times.
