The Asus Z71v

If you're thinking about ordering one, go for it. It's light and small enough to actually be a laptop without being a huge DTR like the Dell 9300's are (which was one of the other notebooks I was considering purchasing) but the Z71v also packs enough power to game. I can play all my games with some decent settings...IE Doom 3, HL2, EQ2, KOTOR 1&2, BF 1942 and Farcry.

My main reason why I did go with this instead of the 9300 is that because this would be used for school, and I would be dragging it to classes, so I needed something that had a decent battery life to it as well. It has the ability to equip 2 batteries, I only have one atm, and I get a little less then 3 and a half hours on it. Which isn't bad at all for a notebook that has a 6600 GPU.

Cliff Notes:
-Small enough and light enough to be hauled around
-GPU is more then enough power to play all the latest games
-Cook1 is happy 😀

Hey, congrats on your purchase. I've got one myself that I end up takin to class 7 days a week and haven't had a prob yet with it. ('cept for the z71v faulty battery prob, but a quick rma to asus and they have fixed that one painlessly).

For anyone here interested in this one... it is really great, but you should also check out the z70va for a comparable ATI solution from asus, which is another solid lappy.

Yeah the Z70va is basically the same as the Z71v cept with ATI's card.

It's a different chassis as well. Less plasticky. You do save about 100 bucks going for the 71V though.

I considered it when I was making my purchase.

I ended up with the W3V instead. a bit smaller.

this was before the refreshed Z70 though, So at that point, the w3v was just a Z70 in a smaller form. Had the Z70va had the Radeon X700 when I was looking, I just might've gotten that instead.

ummmmm, I hate to say it but the z70va ONLY comes with the x700 and nothing else. it was the z70v that had the x600 in it. but either way you've got yourself a solid comp

I've had the z71v for several months now. Pretty nice laptop, except for the extensive battery problems everyone seems to be having. Hopefully it's just a bad batch of batteries and they have fixed it. My RMA is on the way.

I bought the Z70Va a few weeks ago and love it. I have a 2.0ghz processor in it with 1 gb of ram and an 80 gb hdd. I also have the dvd burner in it. Take a look at the z70va when considering which laptop to get, its a very nice machine and the price isn't too bad for what you are getting. Plus the carbon fiber chassis looks very nice.

I meant the pre-refreshed version, the one with the X600 in it.
I dun remember what the letter extension to that was

Anyone got a price on these, I have been looking and I'm having a hard time deciding on what one to buy. Looking to do school work mostly and Game when I have to travel for work or just on lunch.

thanks and sorry to hi-jack your thread
