The anechoic room.

Hi!

Has anyone ever been in an anechoic room / chamber? There is absolutely no reflected sound whatsoever. Talking is so strange it makes you feel like you're congested. It's because the only sound getting to your ears is direct and through conduction of the bones in your head. In a normal room most of the sound is reflected off hard things.

It's a weird experience.

People probably think of padded rooms for crazy folks too. If you get the chance, check it out once.

Yeah, I built and tested a microwave receiver back in college. The anechoic chamber always really freaked me out; mainly due to the fact that there were warning signs posted everywhere. Apparently, anechoic foam is highly flamable and emits toxic smoke.

Does your lab have a copper room? I always liked taking a portable radio or cel phone in there, and watching the reception completely die when the door was closed: an equipotential Gaussian surface in action!

They do have different testing facilities with RF and other energies involved. Do you know of the one in Bermuda that made a schoolyard and 100 children disappear for over 30 minutes and when they came back they were wearing clothing clearly from a very different place?

That's interesting stuff. I'm sure there's articles out there on the web.
