The Ancient Greeks...

Now that is truly a work of art, considering what they had back then?

When I see pictures like that, it reminds me of Magic cards. Don't play the game anymore though, you don't have money for everything in life, especially the time it takes to build a decent deck unless you're a maniac, thumbs up for M:TG fans!!!

Man-child love too.

Women were treated like crap as well (they lived in a different part of the house, and couldn't go to the 'men' side)... but then again, women were treated like crap in most societies up until recently.

But at least they weren't afraid of nudity.

The artwork on the new releases is noticably better, too.

Greek Mythlogy is by far my favorite religion, and it's not surprising it inspired great works of art. It's a shame it was somehow proven wrong while others weren't. I love reading the stories. Although I could do without Zeus's fondness of raping handsome men.

Hey I don't care what they do.......just the facts.

It's a fact that artists engage in anal sex often enough to be known for it? I'll never think of da Vinci or the other ninja turtles the same way again.

I saw that in the Louvre. The still photo doesn't do it justice to seeing it in person. I highly recommend it if you ever get the chance. The way they have it situated in that room it looks like it is about to fly from the pedstal and soar across the room. The cloth draped across the statue looks so thin that you can clearly visualize it flowing across the body. Definitely an amazing piece of art.

looking at the ancient Greek artwork and architetures, and reading Plato's works, it just make me feel like we humans have not gotten any smarter than we were 3000 yrs ago. we just accumulate more knowledge from the past.

The ancient Greeks may not have had a highly technological civilization, but by no means were they barbarians. Culturally, they were quite advanced (and none of this stupid "Jesus" bullshit).

The Greekss are certainly one of the most, if not the most, influential Civilization in Western History. They brought Art, Philosophy, and even Political Systems to heights that not only influenced the Ancient World, but once re-discovered by Europe Greek influence stimulated the Reformation, European Art, European Expansionism/Empires, and European/American Political change. It's not surprising that Western History classes focus significantly on the accomplishments of the Greeks.
