They have to be feeling the pressure big time. If Mantle doesn't perform well, no one can say its because they didn't try hard enough. They are betting a lot on this first impression of mantle.

And however it turned out, it is a card that they have to play now, like yesterday. Hope it's not a(nother) deuce.

When I have to use an extremely abstract meaning, used only this one time, to have it make any sense; yes, I take issue with it. I take issue with it also being called a metaphor rather than just a poor word choice and bad English.
Most people understood it immediately. It may or may not be a metaphor, but is certainly shares a very similar use. I suppose if you don't speak English as your native language, this might be difficult to understand, but this type of word play is quite common.

Ha, i guess that is the definition of "marketing went wrong":

Developers hate different code paths. They shouldn't have to put up with additional complexity, development time, QA risk and maintainability issues in their game because they're not able to optimize the same code path for all hardware due to its abstraction in a black box library.

 ^ What they fail to mention in that tweet was that the game was previously running at 170fps at the same settings previously. 😉 :whiste:

I think the point was, without a reference point, those number don't mean a lot.

Of course, once you are past 144 FPS, anything more is kind of pointless.

If it's running at 180FPS, I can guarantee it is very CPU bound and was likely running at maybe 100-120FPS on DX. Biggest improvements at high FPS (CPU bound).

AMD and DICE really have a lot to prove with Mantle in Battlefield 4. Its a make or break situation. Especially when they have posted slides claiming "up to 45% faster".

Reviewers surely gonna rip them apart if they dont deliver. Not to mention the heated discussions which will come following the first DX vs Mantle benchmarks.

Now I am not sure if I am more excited to try out mantle or to see the reactions people have online no matter what the results. It should be funny

That is where the real entertainment is going to come. Good or bad, when Mantle is released (or canceled, if that happens), this forum in particular will explode. Should be interesting, to say the least.

That sounds like it is moving the goal posts a little, doesn't it?

If Mantle flops on BF4, the only devs who will adopt it will continue to be the ones who are subsidized.

Mantle being adopted in the wild is AMD's goal, and the spotlight is on the BF4 release. That is where it was put.

Its dev side to decide and not amd marketing. Its EA deciding and it looks they have chosen. Lets asume they know something about perf and cost, to the details, and lets asume its because they can earn money on it.

Amd simply dont have the profit to subsidize beyond the first kickoff. Anyone saying so needs to point to amd balance sheet and show where the money is.

Besides it looks to me its the same persons saying this is only marketing financed pr that says amd have no money.

Definitely. With all the hype and delays, it better be good.

I can't wait! Its going to be fantastic. Also, if Mantle kicks ass in BF4, I'm going to start a petition which will force AMD to produce freesync ASAP because having both would be great.

Freesync is still in r&d phase I presume. Also you would need another monitor just like gsync but every new monitor that comes with VESA will do. But still a new monitor, no?

I would only be bummed if it was cancelled, because I just don't see that happening. All other
possibilities are on the table IMO, and I can accept whatever, even if it doesn't match my expectations. I've watched enough movies that disappointed, watched enough sporting events that didn't live up to the hype, and have bought plenty of products that didn't perform as
well as I had hoped.

But if it was cancelled, I would be highly suspicious of what's going on behind the scene.

So is BF4 and Mantle...... 😉 😛

If you are here to just thread crap then get out. I have yet to see a single post worth a value of your 42 posts you have here.

I would be very angry if it was cancelled. Lol. Because i am so damn curious how it can change especially the rts genre.

But besides from that its a win situation for us as consumers because if it gives a free boost whats no to like? and if it fails then everything will just be like before.

If nv will do the same great. Then my gaming notebook can play better bf. Super.

Some of the negative talk in this thread looks imho more like destructive brand enthusiams to me. No need for that, its amd and eg EA shareholders taking most of the risk. Its innovation. What hopefully drives game experience forward.

Again, Mantle is not free. Nor, will any NV low level, hardware specific API be.

With no additional info over 2 months, this feather has spun into a full featured phoenix, to ashes, to bird again... With no real additional hard data! No data!.... And you wonder where religion comes from? - just leave people to their own devices, and it will come.
