I've been out of country for seven months and just got back a couple of weeks ago. My phone charger was lost so I just got any messages on there today, and one was from a very serious sounding lady from the hospital billing department telling me that her call was their final attempt to contact me. This was on December 13th. What I assume happened is my insurance didn't end up covering my treatment and they've been after me since May for this money.

So, is it already in collections? And if it is, that pretty much means I'm screwed right? I just checked my credit the other day and it was as good as a student's could be, will this be that terrible?

Sunday night followed by Christmas days isn't the best timing, but I'm going to try again tomorrow. This sucks because it was an honest mistake and the time after treatment until I left the country was about 2 months so I don't know why it took them so long to contact me about this.

you could be ok if you get it straightened out...

I was 5 months late on a bill payment once because of a wrong address and nothing too bad happened in the end once I talked to the billing people.

I'll get them both back this week when the Pats lose to the Giants.

In this case you may well be screwed. ;)

Seriously though, contact them tomorrow or Weds & explain what happened ... even if its in collections, all they want is the money you owe, not a pound of flesh!
