The almost 0 risk investment scheme

It seems everytime that one of these new game consoles come out there haven't been enough manufactured. People still have high demand for them and there going for over 50% in value. X-box 360 is going for about 800 on ebay right now.

Next Christmas when PS3 comes out why not pre-order 3-4 systems. Sure the initial investment is $2,000 on your credit card. Pick them up the day they are released (from different stores). Then sell them on ebay with the minmum price being the sale value of the PS3. You could make as much profit as in the XBox 360. If for some reason Sony steps up and actually produces enough consoles you can just return them back to the stores. Effectively you used your credit card and stores return policies to buy the PS3 on margin. The only loss is your time.

I'm not saying its ethical but it does seem relatively risk free. I can't think of any 'investment' with as high of a potential return with as low of a risk. What am I missing?

the fact that 20,000 other people are doing the same thing. 90% of the people in the line I was in said they were pruchasing to resell

And yet people are still selling them at least 50% above their retail price.

PS3 is slated for Spring 2006 launch there will not be the huge rush to get one before Christmas like the Xbox 360. It is possible die-hards will pay up irregardless but not nearly the urgency as there is right now for the Xbox.

MS only delivered about half the quantity they originally promised, if Sony doesn't make this mistake there may be no shortage.

Also, there are a huge number of speculators buying xbox360, if the number of speculators goes even higher for the PS3 you could easily run out of suckers to gouge.

I thought about doing it with the XBox360, but then I remembered what it was like when I was a kid and the new game/toy I wanted was sold out. I was so very disappointed. I don't want to do that to some kid. I know other people are doing it, so the kids get screwed anyway, but I'm one less person doing it.

PS2 was the only console to sell out before this. No other console/handheld was able to be resold for a big markup.

Gamecube? nope, plenty on release
Xbox? nope, plenty on release
Nintendo DS? nope, too many as well
PSP? Hell no...over 100 at each BB on release date

I think Xbox360's biggest factor why it is being bought on ebay for damn near $1000+ is b/c of the holiday's. People want to get this for Xmas and what not.
