I need to buy a new mouse because the generic microsoft mouse sucks right now.
I'm leaning towards the MX 500/510 but I like the idea of the mx700.
The only downside to the mx700 is a little heavier than the mx500.
What do you guys think?

EDIT: I'm buying the mouse mostly for gaming.

MX700 for cordless or MX510 for corded mouse which has the newer improved sensor and is slighty better then the other MX models.

you need an option to just "view results"

i have no idea which one is better since ive used none of them :)
but i had to vote for the 1st one just so i could see the results

hehe so ignore one of the votes for mx500(510) :D

Yeah, put an option for just results, or "other." I am attached to my Logitech Mouseman dual optical. It has the best weight, shape, and button positioning of any mouse I've used. I also don't need to use the buggy mouseware drivers to utilize all of its buttons. Only thing I could ask for is the MX sensor, but the 2 optical sensors do a pretty darn good job as it is.

Useage?

If you are going to use it for a standard desktop setup then I'd say go with the MX700. If you are a gamer that notices the difference between double and tripple buffered stay away from the 700 or 900 although both the 500 and 510 do really well there. If you don't know exactly why you need a MX900 then you don't need one.

I have the 700, love the no-wires aspect, plus i personally like the heavier feel of it, wish it was a little bigger though, like the microsoft higher ends, the paint/finish on it rubbed off now, so am going to paint the colored part blue (like my rig) and turn it into a 510 (v2) mouse :)

can't say i have any issues with control/lag or anything like that.

Having owned both an MX500 and MX700, I will go on record and say the MX700 is superior, if only for the fact that the cord doesn't snag in the middle of a circle of death duel :p

I've both MX510 and MX700 and prefer MX510 lot more. It just moves better and feels more precise.

I have the mx700, and have had the mx500, and both are great, my preference lying with the mx700 due to it being cordless and just as accurate. If the weight of the mx700 is a big issue, you can take the weight out of it quite easily. There are a couple of how tos on this floating around the net.

Each to his own, however I find a mouse bungee is excellent for a corded mouse, especially in gaming.

I've had the mx700 and the mx900. The mx900 is useful for long range, but if you don't need that, save the money and get the MX700, they are identical in response and performance.

Have you tried the MX300? Same shape as the "classic" Logitech mice with the MX sensor.

i'll say mx510 cause i can't recommend getting a wireless mouse for gaming (no matter how good people say it is)

MX500 for me (MX310 with laptop). Wireless mice are just too heavy for my liking due to their batteries.

I would go with the MX510 in that case ,don`t forget a good gaming mouse pad, they are worth the extra IMHO if you`re a gamer.

There is no way you are serious. How do you select anything in games with that "scroll" wheel?

What is scary is that they actually advertise the smooth scrolling as a "feature" on the Intellimouse on their sales and training materials. Apparently no one has told MS what the "clicks" are for on the Logitech scroll wheels.

At least it's not one of those Apple mice. It's sad when they added right-click contextual menus to Panther, but the mouse is still a single button with no scroll wheel. Those things look cool, but from an ergonomic standpoint they are horrid. One of those weird design decisions that Apple will be stuck with pretty much forever because the needs of the many are outweighed by the needs of the Jobs.

I don't really like the MX 310 design. I actually prefer the old "MouseMan" ergonomic design over the Dual Optical MouseMan design. Note I'm referring to just physical feel and not to the pointing properties.
