A $449 MSRP unparalleled top notch multimedia R300 powerhouse card with hardware MPEG2 capture and revolutionary new video features. Unfortunately it can't do one of the most simplest and cheapest of things a capture card can do. Video Conferencing, for that you will need another type of $10 video capture card.

DAMN!!! For $449 I'd expect this thing to make coffee and clip my nose hairs!!!

That's one helluva card though, and given the silly performance of the 9700pro, it shouldnt take any type of noticeable performance hits like past AIWs have.

at least this time there not lying about it like they did on the AIW Radeon. I just wish Anandtech's review would have brought it up.

Wouldn't you just add a microphone and a webcam for videoconferencing? How many people really use videoconferencing, either? It might have been a feature that would have made the card $50 bucks more expensive, to give a feature only 10% of consumers would use.

Lol, well...I just received a nice settlement from the insurance co. for totalling my car. Yah it sucked, but I'm over it.

So here's the dilemma:

1) buy a 50'' Plasma HDTV flat panel with the AIW 9700pro and tool around in a Civic

or

2) save the $10k for a down payment on the car I drool over...the new A4 Cabrio :D

What's killin me is the 1.8T isn't available until January!!!! February for custom orders!!! I need to hide that money...temptation to spend it is toooooo great.

NicColt, can you detail the issue with video conferencing a little more? What exactly doesn't work about it?

The TV Tuner on the AIW 9700 Pro is no better than any other tuner on the market. Or were you refering to something else?

The fact that it is coupled with the AIW makes it better. The adaptive deinterlacing alone makes the display of the video on the monitor better than any other solution, the fact the AIW 9700 pro also supports picture in picture when used with an additional tuner is a feature not available any other way AFAIK. The phillips tuner itself is a solid, proven unit, coupled with the theater 200 chip..its unequalled whether displaying on your monitor or outputing to another display.

What do you mean 9700 pro cannot vidoe conference ?! for vide conferencing ,You will need a camera that was intended for it. It should come with a software for video conferencing as well. What diffefence does the video card make.

I don't see why you cannot video conference with a system running AIW 9700 Pro

Man all good stuff in a video card is really disturbing for me. Imagine the amount of interferance and power consumption it might cause, plus bring over your cable line (satellite, antenna) and even more unwanted "noise" the PC has to put up with. Man plus include the Monitor (LCD dont count) you got a radiation fest. I had a ATI TV Wonder (old revision, big PCB) and the sound died on me. I could guess why, I had all the PCI filled, Cable was running into the PC, it must have shorted something, I wouldn't be suprised if this product lasts no more than a year.

I think this is why there's a floppy power connector on the back of the card ;)

What do you base that on, your "experience"? My AIW cards have worked for years and ATI has excellent warranties on their cards. ATI also makes all AIW cards and are the flagship of their line, I would expect them to last as long as you want it installed in your rig.

Sure man Of course Ive got experience with the ATI TV Wonders, Im kicking myself in the pants, as to why I did not get the USB version of the TV wonder. Hassle free and same performace. My TV Wonder died on me, my friend he ordered one and it died on him in 3 months (his was a smaller PCB and came with a video dongle.) I'm sure your 7500 AIW wont die out on you, surely because it has a crippled core, and slower ram than my Radeon LE. (Which I must say is extremely overclockable)

Remember I had a total different configuration than you, from what I can tell you have only a Sound card with your Graphics card.
While I had TnT2/FireWire Card/Adaptec 19160 SCSI card/Conexant-Riptide Combo Card/TV Wonder/Network card. As you can see I had a boatload of stuff.

My Advice then, if your going to have LOTS of stuff in your PCI buses, don't get an AIW, get a 9000 Pro 128 or above with external USB TV Wonder.

If your going to have only a sound card in a PCI slot, while the rest is empty, by all means go and get an AIW.

Sorry TV Wonder does not = AIW by any stretch, apples and oranges. The TV Wonder carrries quite a reputation as a POS, that is not shared by the excellent AIW Radeon series of cards. This is my 4th rig with an AIW card, and I've set up several others..I think I know what I'm talking about. I've used it in rigs with Promise RAID cards, nics, secondary PCI Video cards..all the slots (except PCI#1) full without trouble.
I'm sure your 7500 AIW wont die out on you, surely because it has a crippled core, and slower ram than my Radeon LE
Do you know what you are talking about? The Radeon Le has slower ram(and a software crippled core) than the 5ns ram on my AIW 7500. The 7500 core is crippled in what way exactly? I pull ~ 6000 3dMark 2001SE...pretty good for any 7500 and certainly better than any Le (unless you're talking 8500le). What does a crippled core have to do with video card life anyway?

USB TV Wonder over an AIW? for more compatability? Stability? Feature set? Get real.

My advice add a TV Wonder to an AIW 9700 pro for picture in picture perhaps, otherwise forget TV Wonder.

Hehe... harsh words man. Kinda taking this literally huh? All I'm saying is sure the AIW is good, for a given amount of time. But I wouldnt lay my hands on one.

My RADEON LE with a BIOS of a Radeon 32MB DDR is clocked at 166/166 and when I WATER COOLED it I got 200/200 with the PowerStrip (so my so called "software" crippled core is NOT so crippled, my little BIOS upgrade did the trick) Your AIW 7500 would not even come close to my watercooled Radeon LE.

P3 600 + Radeon LE @ 200/200 = 3500
Celeron 1.3 + Radeon Le @ 200/200 = 5500

When I upgrade to a Barton I will surely test my Radeon LE and cant wait for a 8000 or above.

Did you run your 3dMark tests with the Athlon 1600+ overclocked ? Or was it stable enough to run?

You're talking out your a$$ pal.

btw, I still own an AIW Radeon and a Radeon SE VIVO, so I know how R100 cards perform.
P3 600 + Radeon LE @ 200/200 = 3500
Celeron 1.3 + Radeon Le @ 200/200 = 5500
Yea Right, care to post your compare url....heres mine 5960

I had a Radeon 32MB DDR also at one time.

Im intersted in seeing a link or screenshot for the score you mentioned.
