So being a new Mac convert I quickly fell in love with iTunes and soon after I bought an iPod for the most part i've been using the iPod in the car but I have a pretty nice home theater and stereo so i've been searching for an iPod dock for my receiver then I ran into the AirPort Express & AirTunes, after looking it over online I drove down to my local Apple dealer and picked one up. Man it is SWEET! Airtunes is way nicer than having another iPod on the receiver. Someday I may use the Wi-Fi on the Airport, maybe i'll get a touch someday.
Anybody thinking about putting an iPod on your nice stereo , forget it, get and AirPort Express with AirTunes.

If you like AirTunes, be sure to check out the Airfoil app ($25) from Rogue Amoeba:

http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/

It lets you send ANY audio on your Mac to your remote speakers - including Youtube, video games, and Plex, not just iTunes! :)

Should be bit-perfect too if you disable all dsp options (sound enhancer, sound check, equalizer?) in iTunes preferences.

Thanks, I only knew about the EQ, Sound Enhancer and Sound Check are unchecked.
I appreciate that because bit-perfect matters alot to me.

Hmm there was a ton of setting in ITunes preferences I do not understand, would you or someone else mind going over them? Then again I can always call Apple, once in awhile I get someone who actually knows Mac very , very well. And I did just purchase an Applecare for my iMac because I am nearly certain I am done with Windows PCs, so I got free calls until 2012 now. :).

FYI - if I understand correctly what you're saying, an Apple TV will do the same thing. You can either use it as a remote speaker in iTunes, or you can use the Apple TV interface to stream music from iTunes. And on top of that, you can use an iPhone/iPod Touch to adjust the volume and change songs. :D

Airport Express is a nifty idea... I have two in my apartment, where one points to the main home theater in the living room, and the other one is connected to a smaller system in the bedroom. I like the idea of playing playlists from itunes directly rather than having to sync an ipod first, and having less control over song order. The Apple remote works to switch songs, also.
