Grease is insidious in that it will travel completely through an HVAC system, once it's vaporized and in the air.
People generally turn on the system fan , trying thinking it "goes outside" when in fact it just goes round and round.
They make an Orange oil de-greaser product specifically for HVAC cleaning and I suggest you get some or have a claening done using this.
That orange smell is much better than any grease smell and it will be clean afdter being sprayed down with this stuff.

Side note... Been raining much there? Hartwell getting better?

oh okay, i guess it's from the people who cooked here before me. it's a condo so it's probably been lived in by a bunch of people who cooked.

i don't live in clemson anymore, i moved back home after graduation but last may hartwell was low, very low but i assume it's back up now to a reasonable level with all the rain we've had. the tornado that rolled over the lake a month ago was not cool though, looked like a good bit of damage from the pictures i saw.

Check around for Duct Cleaning service locally. If you own the condo, it is something you can write off as maintenance, and will help with smells and allergens.
If you're renting, you can ask based on wierd smells and allergens, and they can write it off.
Plus it gets rid of cooties, real ones.

haha okay thanks, there's only 2 outlets, it's not very big so shouldn't be expensive/hard to clean even if they couldn't write it off.

Maybe its time to start cooking so you can have the sweet smell of pie or something coming out of it.

The real question here is if the smell is in the a/c unit or in the ducts. If it is in the A/C unit a service tech can come out, pull off the blower wheel, and clean it. If it is in the ducts you need a professional duct cleaning service. Spraying crap in there will do nothing, the problem has to be scrubbed.

It's entirely possible that you have mold on the evaporator. The evaporator is the coil inside your home that the air blows over to remove the heat and humidity.

There is a drain for the water that is removed from the air. Do you know if it's draining properly? Regardless, you would need to have a pro out to service the system.
