The ability to delete your own threads

This would be a great feature for people who get advice they need to keep private, posts that are dead like stuff that has sold or threads they no longer wish to have, etc.

If you have any issues with a thread you started just contact a mod and, if you ask nicely and explain the reasoning, I am sure they would be happy to help you out and delete it.

Well no, but they can be binned.

This is a public forum, for better or worse. If you have anything you'd like to keep private, use a private message. Because even if you could delete your thread, anyone could have already saved a copy while it was up, so deletion wouldn't provide much real privacy.

this isnt a good idea. Threads are probably worth something to other people besides the origionator, so deleting then will be detrimental to them.

How can you keep something private that is posted publicly? Posting it for the world to see, including google indexing, then expecting it to vanish by deleting it?
posts that are dead like stuff that has sold
Very few people ever bump these threads by replying to them. However, keeping these things around serves as a means for others to research some "stranger" on the internet who they are considering purchasing something from or selling something to.
or threads they no longer wish to have, etc.
Bummer. With the freedom to post comes the responsibility to decide if you really want to make certain things public. However, on a case by case basis, some threads have been moved out of the public's eye (threads don't get "deleted" - they continue to exist) when there have been extenuating circumstances.

To those who say "threads do not get deleted", I disagree and have proof.

I agree that they should never be deleted.
However, they have been deleted for no good reason before.
I asked why. I was basically told the mods had authority to do it!
Which was not really my question.
It is sad.

Sigh.
I guess they don't teach English any more.

What a mature, modest and constructive post?

I figured with your holier than thou attitude, it had to be something to get your attention.
I know you fancy yourself an intelligent, critical thinker. But truth be told, you're just a condescending prick.

Just because YOU can't see it, doesn't mean it was deleted.

Are we talking semantics here?

The thread is not deleted? However, I cannot see it and I cannot make a link to it?
So, as far as I am concerned, how is it not deleted?

It is placed in another forum that only the Mods and Admins can see.

You do not have to like my attitude. I am not here proposing to you or anybody else.

If you can help me learn, I thank you. If you cannot, or if you choose not to, you do not have to.

You made a comment that had nothing to do with the subject of the thread. Rather, it had to do with my personal character, even though you know nothing about me.
I responded to that post criticizing the post.

You went a notch higher and attacked my character again.

I ask you to please stop.
