Run some superpi32 and let see what 2.7ghz does on a sempron machine with 256kb of cache and SC controller...heck run the 1mb one if it is easier...

I'm basically running a few minutes of prime to make sure the system doesn't lock up, then I proceed further. Eventually I'm going to get to a stopping point, and then back down for absolute stability. Right now I'm just trying to find the max. I finally had to make a voltage bump, so I'm sitting at 1.5v right now, but the chip is sitting at 340HTT x 8 = 2.72ghz

Do I keep going for a higher max?

*Edit*
I think I'm done. I'm going to back down until I reach stability.
I'll get in a superPI score for you guys, as well as start doing some of my game benches to compare to my mobile barton.

37s for the 1M test. Not done during a fresh reboot though, and done at 2.68ghz
Is that decent, Duvie?

BTW Zebo, I'm at 2.7 now :D

This thing is insane!

wOOT!! Like I said the new mobile XP's but better cause they are BASELINE faster by 20% and even a bit cheaper (@2600)!!!!

Oh and nevermind my backplate fitting post.. missed your earlier update.:):p

What mem settings and timings? super seems a little slow

So far I am not impressed with my 3000+ sempron.:(

Does 2250mhz on default voltage of 1.4v but needs 1.6v to get to 2.4ghz (prime95 testing 2.4ghz now)

What are your temps now? I always thought the DFI was reporting high, but then again, I am running a 3400+ NC, so I thought that the temps might be legit.

Congrats on getting 2.6+ :D

I think it shows us that cache and dual channel memory makes a diff in this app....At 2.7ghz I get a 29sec, at 2.66ghz I get 30sec, and 1.8ghz with all stock I get 40sec...BUt I am sure you are good for some more seconds once you find the sweet spot for the ram...

Makes sense I get 31s @ 2.65 on winny and 35s @ 2.65 on NC

diff mem config though 241membus vs 265Bus.

Zebo the more I try the more I think that my board is limiting me.

I am pretty much hitting the same wall as I did with my A64 2800+ so it leads me to beleive that my Chaintech VNF3-250 is the culprit here.

Looks like I will have to do what Avalon did & grab myself a DFI motherboard.

I think you're right, been primin for a while at 2250mhz @ 1.4v & it's doing great running cool too at 47c full load so i guess it's bye bye Chaintech for me also.

Time to sell my little Duron server box board/cpu & make the chaintech the new server box . ;)

Definitely grab the DFI, Budman. I'm sure you'll get what you're looking for with it.
I'm running the chip at 2.6 right now. It loads at 55C. Prime has been going stable since I last posted.

I think the DFI is high by a couple degrees, but that's fine.
2.6ghz with 1.5v (1.48 actual) is very nice. I've been gaming on it, and everything is smooth as silk so far. Benches will come tomorrow. :)

Yep...I'm actually going to not be lazy, and start working on benches right now. It'll be a work in progress. Just keep peeking in, and you'll see some new results in bold to compare to my barton.

I just added 12x9 and 16x12 scores.
My benches at 12x9 are about the same as my barton, and at 16x12, noticeably lower. What could be wrong?

Same driver setup for vid card??? all settings the same???

What speed are you testing at officially now???

I went back and look at the xbit review and in the games the 2.2ghz 3500+ appeared to win most of them...it appears the DC memory controller and cache makes more of a difference in those type of apps.....

By the way what are you doning for memory right now...maybe this is too early to be benching for comparison if the memory is not tweaked properly...

Same video setup as previous on my barton.
Using the 71.81 WHQL forcewares, with my card softmodded to 16/6 and clocked at 350/850.

I'm officially testing at 325x8 = 2.6ghz even, using a 2.5x LDT multiplier and a 133 mem divider, putting my memory at 216FSB. The timings for it are 2-3-3-7. Everything else in the BIOS is on auto. Fast writes is disabled, like in my barton setup. I even downclocked by 150mhz to see if it was a stability issue (couldn't see why, I was priming away perfectly). My score after the 150mhz downclock was even lower in benches.

You would think that if I were getting hefty gains in 10x7 4x/8x, that I'd at least see some (but smaller) gains as I pushed the resolution and made it more graphics bottlenecked?

*Edit*
Is there anyone out there with a successfully softmodded 6800NU that is either the owner of a Newcastle or Winchester?

Sorry to hear about your Chaintech board, Budman. I have parts for a new system coming from Mwave soon, and, sadly, I pulled the trigger on the Chaintech instead of the Epox or DFI board. I may come to regret it, or I may not. I've paired it with a 2800+ Sempr0n socket 754. I'll report on the chip once it gets here, if anyone cares *P

Congrats on the overclock Avalon.

You should see how big the 7700 is! Picture a 120mm fan, then place the copper heatsink around it! The thing weighs 930g! But it's beautiful and cools like a charm.

I just wonder what would game better

I have a NC 3000@ 2.5 or would a new Sempy at 2.7 be better?

I figure a 90nm 3000 or 3100 could/should hit 2.7 at 300MHZ.

Thoughts?

I have no idea. I'd rather not say anything until I figure out my performance numbers. They do not match up with Xbit reviews.

*Edit*
I think something is wrong with my video card. My 16x12 4x/8x score dropped from 41.9 to 29.9 (with my barton system it was 51.8). Obviously, when things are mostly CPU dependant (10x7), my Sempron shows huge improvements. It should not be the softmod or heat, as both of those are within acceptable ranges. The card may be improperly seated. I'm going to have to reseat it and see if that fixes things.

Going to test my old A64 2800+ first & see how fast she can go then I will attack the Shemp Ron. ;)
